20 Months!

Standard

We are in full out toddler mode in the Gilbertson household!

Kenley has spent this last month putting words together,
which is so fun to watch and hear.
She is really into personal possession: “mommy’s coffee”, “daddy’s beer”, “Kenley’s water”, etc.
Last night, she went around the table saying “mommy’s eating, daddy’s eating, Kenley’s eating.”
This started a couple weeks ago when she would all of a sudden say,
“shh…Emmy’s sleeping..or Corbin’s sleeping…or Caleb’s sleeping.”
This is because our darling daughter only naps for one hour each day,
so she often was awake at school while her friends were sleeping.
Some of our other favorites are:
How are you? …Good! (Answering herself)
Baby down!! (When baby falls on the floor)
Come here.
Kenley’s house.
Almost there.
Buckle in.
I love you!

If the girl could be outside all day long, she would.
She loves running around, playing in the sand, pushing her Cozy Coupe,
playing with bubbles, riding in the wagon, and finding rocks.
When we go to the park, her favorite thing is the slide.
She loved the splash pad the first time we went,
but has been luke-warm about it the last two times.

Her favorite song right now is Muffin Man. Hands down.
As soon as we get into the car, she asks for it.
Frankly, I have no idea why. It puts me to sleep!
She also likes Ten in a Bed, the ABCs, and the Wheels on the Bus.
The Itsy Bitsy Spider and Twinkle, Twinkle are still fan favorites too.
She had been singing something that resembled the Barney song for about a month now,
I love you, you love me, we’re a happy….. then it kind of trailed off.
So, I had to ask her old teacher if they listen to that at school because
I could not figure out where it was coming from. Turns out, they had a musical book with the song.
Definitely Barney. I’ve even sang it back to her a few times, against my will.

She is doing well with her ABCs, she can complete her ABC puzzle all by herself,
and can say the ABCs through J… then she picks back up with Q, R, S, then it’s jumbled again.
Her numbers are usually jumbled, and colors are hit or miss.
Everything is blue, then occasionally she’ll get the right color on the second guess.

For summer camp, Kenley just moved up to the toddler room and we love it!
The class has a lot more structure than her last class and she’s already learning new things.
I was worried about the transition since she is well aware of the location of her classroom,
who her teachers are, and constantly talks about her friends (most of which are not in the new class).
After just a few tears on the first day, she has been great.
Her teachers said there was no transition period at all and she just jumped right in.
Hopefully I come back and re-read this when it’s time to transition again, so I don’t worry as much!

Kenley is officially down to one nap a day. We have been teetering in between for months and months now,
and I can safely say that she can take one nap and be fine until bedtime. With that being said,
she really only naps for one hour a day, which is not much for a busy toddler.
We can’t complain though because she is a rockstar sleeper at night.
During the week when school wears her out, she will go down as early as 7pm.
She is to the point where she knows she is tired and will say “night, night”
when she has had enough. We won’t hear a peep from her until right about 6am.
Like clockwork, she will start moving around in her bed anywhere between 6-6:15am,
then she’s up and at ‘em by 6:30am, ready to take on the day.
This works out well during the week when we need to be out the door…
but she doesn’t know that she can sleep in on weekends yet! Darn.
The toddler bed is working out very well.
Only occasionally do we have random visits from her after bedtime.

There you have it. 20 months. I know I say this a lot, but each month gets more fun!

19 Months!

Standard

Kenley is 19 months on the 19th!

I have done a poor job of making mental notes this month,
probably due to my severe pregnancy brain, but here are a few highlights.

Kenley can now say her last name! We noticed this last week after she repeated it back to us
nearly perfectly. A couple days ago, her report from school said she was saying it there too.
I asked her teachers about it and they said they call the kids by their full name sometimes,
so she’s been hearing it a lot. We’re now working on putting all her names together.

One major change is that we have now been in a big girl bed for almost a month now.
Due to our pediatrician’s recommendations and the impending arrival of our second child,
we thought it’s now or never. Kenley has done insanely well. So much so that Greg actually said,
“it’s not this easy is it??”. She knows when it’s bed time and most days she’s too tired to even think
about getting up after we’ve put her down. This week has been somewhat challenging,
but she also has had a bad cold, and it’s been nothing that we couldn’t handle.
She still gets up at the crack of dawn some days (joy) but usually will play in her room,
and occasionally try to open the door or knock on it…you know, so we know she’s in there?
Naps are a little more difficult since it’s broad daylight and there are a lot of distractions
in her room, so it’s a crap shoot each day to see how it will go.
I will note that she has been sleeping on a cot during nap time at school since she turned one,
so I am sure that helped in this transition process.
I am also sure that we aren’t out of the woods yet and she may still regress,
but I can say that we are pleased so far with the transition to the big girl bed!

Untitled

Just in the past week, Kenley seems so old to me. Like, a legit toddler.
I think it may be that her hair is getting so long! All of a sudden, she has a full head of
blondish-strawberry-blondish curly hair. Including bangs in her face at times…
She has been asking for pigtails recently, but doesn’t leave them in too long,
so we tried a ponytail, and it may be the cutest thing ever… She leaves it in too, which is fun.

Another new thing this month is sorry…or “soooo-rry”.
We have been asking her to say it after she hits someone, usually in the face and she has caught on.
She will say it whenever she does something she knows she’s not supposed to do,
but, hasn’t quite realized that she shouldn’t be doing it in the first place. I guess that will come.

While we have been watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse for several months, it was usually background noise,
as she wouldn’t really be interested in sitting in one place for an extended period of time.
She identifies the characters and loves the songs, but just recently she has really been into actually watching the episode.
She will sit in her big green chair, sometimes with a snack, and watch,
laughing and calling for “Toodles” throughout the show.
While we don’t want her sitting in front of the TV for hours of the day, an episode here and there when we need to get
stuff done around the house, or cook dinner, is nice. It helps that it is somewhat educational too, right?

I’m sure there is a lot more I should be writing about, but that’s all for now!
Happy 19th months Kenley Dee…Gilbertson!

18 Months!

Standard

Yet another big milestone.
In honor of 18 months, here are 18 fun things about Kenley.

1. Kenley loves washing her hands. She asks for soap in the bath and just lathers it in her hands.
She is also very good at pretend washing her hands in her little kitchen sink.

2. She can identify Mickey & Minnie Mouse and Goofy on Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.
Donald & Daisy Duck are still “quack” and Pluto is “dog”.

3. She is really into babies right now. She opens her book to the page with a baby and will
kiss it repeatedly. She’ll hug, pat, and put her dolls night-night. Her teachers say she does the same at school.

*I was stopped at a very long stoplight while I was taking this video.

4. Likewise, she loves looking at pictures on my phone of “baby” (which is really her).
As soon as she sees my phone, she immediately says “picture, picture”.
If you ask her who the baby is, she’ll say Kenley,
but I think that’s only because we’ve told her so many times that it’s her.

5. She loves Publix & free cookies. So much so that now whenever she is placed in a shopping cart,
no matter what store it is, she starts saying “cookie, cookie, cookie” x 5.
She had a couple customers at Hobby Lobby laughing last weekend.

6. She is eating so so so well right now. She loves broccoli, both talking about it and eating it.

IMG_6231

7. She is constantly talking about her friends, both at school and outside of school.

8. She’s scared of the garage door closing and the vacuum.

9. Her most favorite word right now is “no”. We’re back in the “no no no” phase.

IMG_6237

10. She loves to take the garbage and put it in the trash can.
The first time she did it, Greg & I were in shock. She picked up a Cheerio off the floor,
walked right over, opened the pantry door, popped the lid to the trash, and threw it away.
She says “garbage” very well.

11. If we have a couple extra minutes in the morning when I drop Kenley off at school (I drop off, Greg picks up),
I will let her walk in, rather than me carrying her.
Now when we pull up, she says “walkie, walkie” and practically sprints to her classroom
when we get in the door, saying “hi” and “morning” to everyone.

12. She’s starting to say “I love you.”

13. She loves shoes… much like her mama…and her grandma…and her great-grandma. She gets it honest.
Just yesterday, she threw a royal fit when I went to put on her shoes only because she wanted to wear another pair.
Really, already?

14. She is in almost all 2T clothes, with just a couple lingering 18mo outfits, and in size 5 shoes.

15. She loves to “clean up” her bath toys… but she won’t even think about cleaning up the toys in the playroom.

IMG_6240

16. She sings the ABC’s (somewhat in order) and counts to ten (not really in order at all). The other day we had the news on the TV, as most of us have, and she pointed to the scrolling news bar on the bottom of the TV saying… “A” “B” etc. Too funny.

17. She knows the difference between open and closed; and up and down.

18. She weighs 26 pounds 4 ounces and is 32.5 inches tall.

IMG_6264

Happy half birthday Kenley Dee!

17 Months!

Standard

How it is March 19th already, I don’t know. This month’s post really snuck up on us.
It’s been crazy busy, in a good way, here in the Gilbertson household,
and the rest of March isn’t slowing down.

Kenley is changing every single day. It seems like each day she says 10 new words.
I know that’s not really the case, but she is full out repeating anything and everything,
so be careful what you say around her.
The last word of most of our sentences is repeated (or attempted to be repeated).
She still loves talking about her friends each day and her teachers say that she goes around the room pointing to each of them, saying their names aloud.
Likewise, she points to Mommy, Daddy, and Kenley a lot at home, reminding each of us who we are.
The girl really just loves to talk, I wonder who she gets that from?

You would be able to understand most of her words, but there are still some that we can probably only understand.
She is starting to recite some lines of her favorite books, which may be a clue to us to get some new books.
Her favorite book right now is Goodnight Gorilla.
She woke up this weekend saying “gorilla” and we read it twice before breakfast.
On a typical night, we’ll read 7-10 books before bed, and during the weekend days, add in about 10 more.
She loves to read!

Some of her other favorite things right now are CUPS!
She has stackable cups that she has scattered all over her room and in the bath;
there are cups that go with her play kitchen;
and she loves to pull out all the (clean) cups out of the dishwasher.

Untitled

I am happy to report that dinner time is getting somewhat easier.
We are still eating dinner together earlier in the evening and it’s going very well,
other than the fact that I haven’t gotten on the ball with running yet.
There was an entire week this month where Kenley scarfed down everything we put in front of her.
From spaghetti to shrimp & grilled peppers, she ate it all without one complaint.
She has since put up a fight about a meal here or there, but she eventually gives in if she’s hungry enough.
There was another night where Greg made her homemade pizza on an English muffin,
but she ate two servings of peas and didn’t take one bite of pizza.
We can’t really complain about that.

Kenley still has those 12 teethers in there, but we have been working on some new ones this weekend.
I wish I could explain the amount of drool happening over here.
We’re practically swimming in it.
Poor girl was not a happy camper the past couple of days.
Let’s hope they come in quickly!

Finally, I’ll leave you with some silliness.

Happy 17 months!

16 Months!

Standard

Literally, the day after I posted last month, Kenley mastered how to open and close doors.
It was like overnight she went from barely being able to reach the door handle,
to opening and closing every door in the house. Her favorite being the pantry.
Since then, it’s been a fun game of going into rooms and closing the door…
then opening it again…
and repeat ten times.
We quickly learned to keep the door to the garage locked at all times,
and don’t even think you will have privacy anymore in the bathroom.

This month we made some changes with food and meal time.
We had a great 15 month appointment with our pediatrician that was very informative.
Since then, we have really made a point to eat dinner together
and to feed Kenley whatever we are having for dinner.
Before, Kenley would have her own meal, then Greg and I would eat after she went to bed.
We had a great routine down, and are still adjusting to this one.
I love that we’re eating together as a family,
but it has completely cut out the time we had to go for a run after work.
It has also required us to plan dinners more and we have been doing at least
one meal in the crock pot each week, which has been so helpful.

I’ve been sitting on this gem for a while.
She really likes muffins, but for reasons unbeknownst to us calls them “robbies”.

She can now point to her elbow and knee,
and loves to point to your elbow if you’re changing her diaper.
She will also point to “owies” on herself or someone else.

She has had 12 teeth for a little while now,
the front four on top and bottom, and four molars.

We do a lot of talking and asking questions while she’s in the bath tub,
mostly because she is somewhat focused and can’t run off.
She will point out most of the animals in her bath toys
and we will talk about what sounds the animals make, colors, etc.
She really loves her bath time.

IMG_5991

We think that she is really grasping the meaning of who we are.
She’s always said mama or dada, but now she will point to us
and say mommy, then point to the other and say daddy.
She can say her name and seems to understand who she is.
If you say “who’s Kenley?”, she says “ME!”
She also will occasionally answer, “what’s your name?” correctly.
In addition to Kyler, she also will constantly talk about her friends at school,
Caleb (a lot!), Corbin (Co-bin), Emersyn (Emmy), and Andy.
Other new words this month: open (opie), orange (or-ee), cup, table, pizza (dee dup),
Mickey & Minnie (often interchanged), hot dog (as in the song),
snail (bath toy), diapey (diaper), poo poo, and potty (poppy).

Speaking of, we are sitting on the potty every once in a while,
but we’re still holding out for the first time actually going in the potty.
She shows some signs of interest, so that’s all we can ask for now!

This girl loves to dance and sing. We’ve been singing a lot of nursery rhymes lately,
which are very hard to remember ironically… no joke, I googled
“Mary had a little lamb” because for the life of me, I could not remember the words.
…it’s fleece as white as snow, in case you were wondering.
She LOVES the itsy bitsy spider right now and will do the hand motions.
Her version of saying it is adorable and I can’t even think of how I would spell it,
but I know exactly what she wants when she says it.
I’ll try to get it on video.

She also is a big fan of the hot dog song, and will say hot dog over and over again.

Until next time!

15 Months!

Standard

Kenley is 15 months old! This is another milestone that I feel is so much older than last month.
Call me crazy, because I am, but saying 15 months versus 14 months just seems so different.

IMG_53531

Her vocabulary is really taking off, but we can also start to see that she is understanding more.
She can respond to simple commands and even answer questions from time to time.
Over the past couple of weeks, I have really tried to make a list of her words:

Mama & dada
Hi, hello & bye (complete with waving)
Yes & no (complete with head shaking)
Wawa
Apple & nana
Cheese (shees) & cracker
Milk (mostly in sign language and makes the “m” sound)
More (with sign language)
Please & thank you
Cat (at) & dog
Tree
Uh-oh
Wagon
Kyler (loooooves talking about her friend)
Fish (sheesh) & turtle (teetle)
Ball (and a variation of football)
Happy

IMG_53591

Over Christmas break, she would say no after everything. Everything.
It was more like “nooooooo?” and it really was adorable.
Even more adorable now that it has passed.

If you ask if she wants to go upstairs, she will immediately go to the gate
and start shaking it. Upstairs is where the toys are, so it’s super fun.
If you ask if she wants to go bye bye or in the wagon,
she will go straight to the garage door.
One of the fun things is that she will go to her high chair or to the pantry,
when she is hungry or would like a snack.
Sometimes she’ll say cracker or cheese, but usually it’s just “more”.

She can climb the stairs all the way to the top,
in addition to climbing on and off the furniture:
couch, chairs, ottoman, etc.
She is also running,
and is really in to walking backwards, too.

IMG_5382

She loves putting things in drawers and cabinets.
One of her Christmas presents was a little craft table that has two drawers,
and each time we are playing, she will hide puzzle pieces in the drawers.
Downstairs, she will put remotes and toys inside the TV cabinets,
you know, just saving them for later.

She’s also a big fan of peak-a-boo, under the blanket.
She will hide, then it’s your turn. Then it’s “more” several more times.
Greg even caught her sitting up, with a blanket over her head during nap time the other day.

IMG_5394

If you ask what a duck or cow says, she will answer correctly,
mostly thanks to one of our favorite books “Moo, Ba, La La La”.
She LOVES her ducky right now. She will quack at any sight of a duck.
The other day in the car she kept saying something that resembled E-I-E-I-O,
so we have been singing Old McDonald a lot lately, especially with her farm animal puzzle.

Kenley got a new potty for Christmas, with the hopes that she will sit on it before bath time.
She is typically so excited for bath time that she doesn’t want anything to do with the potty.
Being so excited for bath time means she can get her leg almost all the way over the tub,
which is very scary for mama. She is very eager to get in there, to say the least.

IMG_54111

Thanks to her Grandpa, she learned how to unlock an iPod and an iPhone over Christmas.

Happy 15 months Kenley Dee!

IMG_54171

Update from our doctor’s appointment:

22 pounds 8 ounces – 50th percentile
31 3/4 inches – 90th percentile

She’s grown 2 1/2 inches in three months!

14 Months!

Standard

14 months really snuck up on us. This past month has been insane.
Aren’t the holidays like that for everyone though?
With that being said, however, we don’t have any 14 month photos,
so you’re stuck with my grainy iPhone photos. Lame, I know.

14 months. Where to begin?
Kenley’s vocabulary has exploded over the past month.
She tries to repeat everything, even if you can’t understand it, she at least will get the right syllables down.
She’s very good at saying “please” and “thank you”, most of the time.
Greg said just the other day how funny it is when you can’t understand what toddlers are saying,
but we totally understand what she is saying 99% of the time.
I’m sure no one else does, but we get it.
She will randomly say words so clear, like apple,
which is her new favorite word. Any fruit other than a “nana” is an “apple”.

IMG_3362

Her latest thing is that she puts her lovie on the back of her neck when she sleeps.
We started noticing it randomly and then Greg watched her get comfy before a nap
and she wouldn’t stop moving until her lovie was in the right spot.
We think it’s because she sleeps with a blanket during nap time at school on her little cot,
so the weight of the blanket is right at her neck line.
She still doesn’t sleep with a blanket at home in her crib. Is that normal?
Should we be putting a blanket in there with her?

Speaking of naps, we are still moving towards one nap a day.
She is becoming less cranky when only napping once, which is definitely a step in the right direction,
but there are also days that she needs a second nap.
The one nap during the day is also getting longer, which is also awesome.

IMG_3199

Kenley can point to her ear, mouth, nose (usually sticking her finger IN her nose),
and most importantly, her belly button (or bee bo, as in the Belly Button book).
She loves lifting her shirt to show off her big belly and her belly button.
So much so, that her teacher made a comment on how much she’s pulling at her belly button.
We are still working on her eyes, head, and hair.

IMG_3206

It has been a little rough in the teething department.
Those back molars are not fun for anyone. We started working on teeth 9, 10, and 11
all at the same time. It seems like she constantly has her fingers shoved back there.
I had no idea how big those teeth were going to be, but dang, they are huge.
No wonder they hurt!

IMG_3394

It’s funny to look back on pictures of the little one when she was bald,
because it seems like she’s had a ton of hair forever…which I know is not true,
but it is just growing so quickly! And there are at least some curls, so that’s good.

IMG_3388

Obviously, the biggest change over the past month was the move into the new house.
I was worried about her, but she’s been a rockstar.
She had zero issues and actually slept better in the new house than she did
the week leading up to the move in the old house.
Greg worked hard to get her room done before we moved in,
to try to make the transition as easy as possible, so hopefully that helped.
I’ll be sharing her new room, hopefully after the start of the new year.
For the first two weeks, she pushed the laundry basket around nonstop,
I guess that was her way of exploring and the tile helps, too.

IMG_3256

IMG_3243

I know I say it every month, but this girl keeps getting more fun by the day.
Happy 14 months Kenley girl!

13 Months!

Standard

Kenley is thirteen months old!
Now that we are’t doing weekly updates, our monthly ones may be a tad lengthy.
Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

IMG_4061

Kenley is becoming more talkative every day.
She is learning new words and new ways of communicating.
There are days that we wish she could communicate a little more,
like when she’s obviously annoyed and we have no idea what is wrong,
but I understand that will come in time.
She can say please “peeees” when prompted, and we are working a lot on “up”,
rather than her pulling on our shirts, whining (to be picked up).
She has a toy that plays “row, row, row your boat” so she sings along by saying “row, row”.
About a week ago, she pulled out her toy banana from her shopping cart,
and looked right at Greg and said “nana”. He about died.
She also says wa-wa (water) and dinner, also when prompted.

IMG_4025

IMG_4055

She points at everything, even at the most random things.
She can spot airplanes in the sky.
When we ask if she wants a “cookie” (graham cracker), she points at the pantry.
In the mornings, she points at everything in her room, like it’s all brand new to us.
If there is a speck of dirt on the floor, she will find it,
pick it up, and give it to you. Occasionally, she’ll try to put it in her mouth,
just to keep you on your toes, ya know?
She also is very good at turning the “light off” and we’ve made that part of our nightly ritual.

IMG_4059

She is continuing to eat very well, and we are still working to keep up.
Recently, she loves ham. LOVES it. She also does a very good job with her veggies.
We usually buy a bag of organic frozen mixed veggies, a bag of organic peas,
and a bag of organic edamame. I mixed the edamame into the mixed veggies,
but usually will feed her peas by themselves because she loves them so much.
I don’t know if it’s because they were her first food, but she will literally eat them by the fistful.
Her favorite fruits are apples and pears which she usually has for breakfast.
We are almost all the way done with spoon feeding, with exception of yogurt.
She also is a HUGE fan of mac & cheese, just like her mama.
We tend to stick with the Annie’s brand in the box or individual pouches,
mainly because I like it the best. Greg and I really only eat that brand now too.

IMG_4065

We are lost somewhere in the land between one and two naps a day.
During the week, she can sometimes get by with one nap since they push it until after 11am
while she is at school. She’ll usually sleep around an hour and a half there.
On the weekends though, she almost always needs two naps and we have a hard time making it past 10am.
I am ok with her still taking two naps, but I just wish we were
a little more consistent with them. She has no problem going down for naps though,
whether it be one or two. She also now sleeps on a cot at school. No more crib!
They said she adjusted very well and she is just the second one that now sleeps on a cot in her class.
I say “cot”, but it really is just an inflatable crib mattress that sits on the floor.
I have heard (and am hoping) this will make the transition to a toddler bed at home much smoother.

IMG_4044

Bedtime is usually around 7:20-7:30pm and prior to the time change, she was sleeping past 7am.
Now, not so much. It’s usually 6:30am, but she is more than happy playing in her crib
for a little while in the morning before we go in and get her.
We are hoping to keep pushing her wake up time back past 7am, but it hasn’t happened yet.
Bedtime routine is dinner, bath, book(s), “light off” and bed.

IMG_4064

Just recently, she seems to be going through a little bit of separation anxiety.
This week, she has cried when I drop her off in the morning.
She is usually distracted easily, but some days are worse than others.
At home, she is also not a fan of us putting her down.
We are obviously not trying to carry her around everywhere,
so we direct her attention to something else, usually to her toys.
She also seems to be more scared of things. Just turning the bath water on is terrifying,
not to mention some of her bath toys. At times, it is quite funny, but not, at the same time.

IMG_4069

IMG_4076

For a while, Kenley was stuck with seven teeth-ers in her mouth.
Just in the last week her fourth tooth on the bottom has started to come in AND bonus,
I just felt around in there this weekend and she has one coming in on the top right towards the back.
This explains why she has been a little crabby recently and she has been pulling at her mouth a lot this weekend.
While I was poking and prodding around in there, I noticed she had a good bump on the left side,
so I wouldn’t be surprised if another tooth pokes through in the near future.

IMG_4066

I think that’s most of the Kenley updates, and I’m sure it’s more than you wanted to know.
We are uber excited for the holiday season and we are very anxious to get into the new house,
hopefully, this week!
I am a little worried about how Kenley will do with the transition, but I think she’ll eventually love it.

Twelve Months!

Standard

Happy 1st birthday Kenley Dee!

IMG_3032

I’m not even sure where to begin. One year old, how is that possible?

Let’s dive right in.

Overall, Kenley does a very good job eating, even though it can be difficult at times.
She loves peas, macaroni & cheese, string cheese, and pretty much any fruit.
We are still continuing to try new foods and combinations of finger foods,
along with more “meals” rather than just food on her tray.
We have a good size list of the foods we have tried, but some new ones are
cheese quesadillas, chicken nuggets, hot dog (with daddy, of course), ravioli,
pancakes, waffles, noodles, bagel thins, and turkey sandwiches.
Majority of meals are hit or miss, one day she’ll love it, the next it’s on the floor.
She loves the Buddy Fruits pouches and will gulp them down for a snack.
She is still drinking breast milk from a sippy cup,
even though I finished breastfeeding around 11 months (!!).
We’ll either stay on the breast milk until it’s gone, or start mixing it with whole milk.
We haven’t really talked about it much or decided one way or the other. Suggestions?

IMG_3088

This girl is on the move! She loves to walk (read: hates to be picked up).
She is all over the place and into everything.
There is no more “getting things done’ when you’re the only parent home with her.
Grandma wanted me to leave her a list of things to do last week when she was home on Friday.
I laughed.
By the end of the day, she was exhausted, and with good reason.
It’s hard work keeping pace with a little one who is constantly on the go.
Her teacher said she and another little boy, who just started walking,
were chasing each other up and down the halls at school this week.
She came home on Monday and Greg and I were both shocked about how fast she is now.

She is quite vocal and has started saying more words.
Each night she says “night night” and we think she understands what that means.
She as also added cat (“ta”), dog, book (“boo”), along with hi, bye, mama, dada, and ball.
We’re working on up, please, and done. She can say done, but chooses to yell majority of the time.
Along with words, she has tons of new sounds and tones that she uses.

We have our evening routine pretty set in stone.
Each night we try to go for a run, or at least a walk.
Kenley has recently started having an actual dinner (rather than just milk before bed).
After dinner, it’s bath time (still in her Whale of a Tub, which we may be graduating from soon),
then it’s to her room, sound machine on, and in the glider for some books.
We say night night and she goes down in her crib.
She rarely cries for more than about ten seconds, snuggles up with her lovies, and is down for the night.
Recently, she’s been waking up crying one to two times a night, it’s usually short and we think she’s still sleeping.
It’s more of a quick scream and a little bit of whining, rather than crying, but it’s still sad.
Hopefully it subsides soon.

This girl in insanely fun and insanely funny too.  She can really crack us up.
I think I speak for Greg as well when I say that I cannot believe how quickly one year can go.
This has, hands down, been the best year of our lives.
We are still amazed each day that we (one) have a child and (two) have such a great one.

Kenley Dee, we love you so much and thank God every single day for you.
Happy birthday!

Our photo ops are becoming more interesting. This girl is all over the place and hates headbands.
It’s quite hysterical, between Greg and I singing, yelling, dancing, and making weird noises,
to Kenley crawling all over the place and trying to find the headband on her head
(picture dog chasing his tail) before she finally yanks it off.
However, we got a few keepers.

Kenley is becoming such a toddler. I can’t even consider her a baby anymore.
Long gone are the days of cuddling, bottles, and pacifiers.
With that comes a bit of ease. We usually know her wants and needs, so we’ll gladly say
good riddance to the days of a crying baby and clueless parents.
By no means do we have it all down. We are still battling nap time on the weekends,
but I think we’re not doing too bad at this point.

Kenley is also developing quite a little attitude personality.

One of her teachers even described her as “bossy” at times.
We are definitely learning how to share and have nice hands.
I have a feeling she’s going to give us a run for our money.

She is a great little eater, but we are struggling to keep up.
We really love making her food and feeding her fresh fruits and veggies,
but since we’re moving out of the puree stage, it’s getting hard to add variety.
I have been scouring Weelicious and other toddler recipe sites, but we are open to suggestions.
She is doing well with her sippy cup and has recently started to use her straw cup too.

Her new class and new teachers are wonderful!
She is one of the oldest in the class, so I think this may have something to do with her bossy tendencies.
Maybe she’s just being a leader? …maybe?
They seem to have a great schedule for them during the day which translates to a good weekly schedule for us too,
even in the mornings! We are getting better, that’s for sure.
Since she has started in the new class, she has been signing. We had not done it much at home, but are getting better.
The most frequent signs are “more” and “all done”, with the occasional ”please” in there.
She is also becoming more verbal. She does a good job of repeating words and sounds that we do.

One month ago Kenley took her first few steps and she is getting better and better.
She is getting more brave and is starting to take it upon herself to walk from one thing to the next.
Of course, she does it on her own time (i.e. not for the camera), which is perfectly fine.

We have hit a new level of teething this week. We are guessing it’s time for molars.
I cannot begin to explain the amount of drool that is coming out of this child’s mouth.
Not to mention a fever, which has kept her home from school the last two days,
and just an overall whiny, puny, not good feeling.
The doctor checked her out and she’s not sick, so that’s a plus,
but she has cuddled and fallen asleep on each of us, which is a definite sign that she’s not feeling well.
It’s heartbreaking. Sleepless nights are back in the Gilbertson household.
Let’s hope they don’t last long!

There you have it! Eleven months!
One month until the big O-N-E!
