Happy Halloween!

Saturday night, we headed down to our community’s event to get some practice at trick-or-treating.
It was on the chilly side, so we decided to dress festive, rather than wear Kenley’s costume.

She ended up with a few pieces of candy in her bucket and was very confused by it.
It’s going to be a fun time trick-or-treating tonight!

I ended up going into labor that night, which means we have two little pumpkins this Halloween!

Stay tuned for pictures.

39 Weeks [Round Two]

39 weeks and 2 days.
Hopefully this will be my last pregnancy update,
but who really knows? This baby is on their own schedule!
It’s hard for me to believe that we’re still five days away from our due date.
I feel like I have been pregnant for…ev…er.
It doesn’t help that I had convinced myself that I was further along this entire time.
This baby sure showed me!

Our bags are packed and ready to go.
I made a point to pack significantly less this time. Two small bags, max.
After we’re back and settled, I’ll share what I used/didn’t use/wish I would have brought.
Here is a peek at the coming home outfits we’re bringing.

image

I have had a random burst of energy the last day or so, getting things done around the house.
This includes making thin mint puppy chow to satisfy my intense craving for sweets.
And why stop there? We also made chex mix!

Waiting for baby + major sweets cravings = thin mint puppy chow. #39weeks

image

I have been 1 cm for the past two and a half weeks which is less than exciting.
Braxton Hicks contractions are strong and frequent, but regular contractions are sporadic.
My feet have been SO swollen the last week and I can only wear flip flops.
If the intense groin pain I’m having is any indication of labor, then I’d say I’ll deliver soon,
but I don’t think that’s the case. Other signs of labor are nonexistent.

***

Here are a few tidbits of our pregnancy journey.

What I could have not lived without:

Peanut butter
Sparkling water
Decaf coffee
Skittles
Pickles
Chipotle
Coconut oil
Lots of pillows

Maternity clothes
Heartburn
Groin and pelvic pain
Waddling
Gaining weight

I hope this is something I will never forget

What I am looking forward to:

Running
Having a beer
Sleeping flat on my back

And most importantly, holding this baby in our arms!

Oh “Two”dles!

For Kenley’s second birthday party, we went with a crowd favorite: Mickey Mouse Clubhouse!
As soon as I saw the “Oh “Two”dles” theme on Pinterest for a second birthday,
I knew I couldn’t pass it up.
There were tons of great ideas out there, but we kept the party pretty low key.
I didn’t take as many pictures as I would have liked, but I do want to share the details.

IMG_8450

My good friend Michelle whipped up the invitations for me, which turned out perfect.
I gave her very little direction and she knew exactly what I wanted.
She made my job easy, that’s for sure!

IMG_8451

IMG_8453

The minimal decor was just enough.
The Happy Birthday sign was borrowed from a friend
and I got red, yellow, and black balloons filled the morning of the party.

IMG_8445

IMG_8447IMG_8448

The menu included:

Hot Diggity Dogs (Pigs in a Blanket)
Donald’s Dip (Buffalo Chicken Dip & tortilla chips)
Mickey’s Meatballs
Pluto’s Pouches
Goofy’s Goldfish
Figuro’s Fruit (Platter)
Von Drake’s Veggies (Platter)
Daisy’s Drinks (Lemonade & bottled water)
Minnie Cupcakes (from Sweet)

IMG_8473

IMG_8479

Kenley opened her presents with the help of daddy and her friends
and enjoyed the frosting off of her very own cupcake.
She did a great job blowing out the “hot” candles!

IMG_8460

The kids had a great time running around inside & out.
Overall, it was a successful second birthday party!

IMG_8503

Here is Kenley’s first birthday party.

my weekend in photos

image

friday was a busy day! kenley took munchkins from dunkin donuts
to her class to celebrate her birthday then we picked her up early for a doctor’s appointment.
she was a rockstar.
later in the day, meemaw, grandpa, and grammy arrived!

Birthday pancakes made by Daddy! #kenleyturns2

her actual birthday started out with candles in her pancakes!

image

she blew out two more candles at her birthday party.
it was big fun!

The party after the party... For another 30 minutes or so until I go lay in my bed forever. #exhausted #swollenfeet #38weeks #kenleyturns2

after the party, the adults played games and relaxed.
greg got this horse racing game for his birthday
after our friends back home introduced it to us last month.
i didn’t last long… it was a long day.

You know your priorities in life have changed when you are super pumped to upgrade from the 'grass' to the 'lawn' #DryingRack

before my amazing prenatal massage, greg and i went to buy buy baby to finish off our gift card.
he was seriously pumped that we upgraded to the lawn (bottle drying rack).
you know where your priorities are in life when those kind of things excite you.

image

the rest of the day was spent watching football (woohoo redskins!) and getting pumped up for the game tonight.
go colts and welcome home peyton!

just in case you were still wondering…no baby yet. but that’s not to say we’re not ready!

***

we had such a fun weekend celebrating kenley dee with our family and friends!
i’ll be sharing many more pictures from her birthday party this week.
how was your weekend?

Two Years Old!

I find it very hard to believe we have a two year old.
Time sure flies when you’re having fun.
Kenley is changing by the day and her vocabulary is expanding like crazy.
She talks all the time (I have no idea where she gets that?) and she is putting
more and more words together to form sentences.
She is starting to use “I” more and talks in the third person less.

Here are some of our favorite phrases right now:

How ’bout… (fill in the blank).
How ’bout fruit?
How ’bout purple shoes?
How ’bout spoon?

Then she adds “maybe” to the end…
How ’bout white raisins maybe?
How ’bout play downstairs maybe?

Other fun facts:

Boycotts the fork at all costs, but loves to eat with a spoon.
Knows almost all of her colors, but sometimes will get blue and yellow mixed up.
Can count to ten but skips four almost every time.
Can put her purple shoes on by herself.
Loves her gummy vitamins and asks for them by name.
Loves her “glasses” when it’s “hot” (sunny) out and wears them upside down.

image

She is a great helper and we have tried to give her more and more tasks to do
in preparation of the baby coming. Her absolute favorite thing to do is
taking the garbage can out to the street. She just wheels it right down.
She also likes throwing things in the trash, helping with the laundry,
and loading/unloading the dishwasher, which turns into lining  up all the cups.

image

Kenley has had swimming lessons for the last five to six weeks after school.
She has done a great job and really has enjoyed it (unlike many of the other kids).
We finished up this week for the winter and Greg and I are so thankful we decided to do it.

Since our last update, we have had fewer tantrums and her behavior has been great.
Her teacher even made a comment how much better she has been in the past several weeks.
I don’t think that’s the end of the terrible two’s by any stretch of the imagination,
but we are soaking it up while we can. Changes are coming very soon, so it’ll be interesting to see
where we are in the next couple of months. On the other hand, we are so anxious to see
Kenley in action as a big sister. She has become more and more interested in her baby dolls,
as well as other babies we have seen in recent weeks. We are excited to have one of our own!

***

Wake up 6:15-6:45am
Naptime 12pm-1:30pm
Bedtime 7:30-8pm
Clothes – size 2T and some 3T that are a little big
Shoes – size 6 that are quickly becoming too small
Disosable diapers (at night) – size 4
Weight – 30 lbs and off of whole milk
Height – 34 inches

***

Happy 2nd birthday Kenley Dee! We love you so much!

38 Weeks [Round Two]

Just two weeks shy of our due date
and I thought for sure we would have had this baby by now.
That shows how much I know, especially considering my doctor told me
yesterday that haven’t made much progress and he doesn’t expect anything
to happen any time soon… so, we wait.

image

Overall, I am feeling pretty good.
The heartburn has completely disappeared in the past two weeks,
probably because this baby has dropped, even though I have felt low for a while.
I am still having pelvic and groin pain when baby moves just in the right spot,
but I have been sleeping a lot better too.
I am definitely not complaining, but I don’t think labor is right around the corner.
The Braxton Hicks contractions, however, are still frequent, strong, and somewhat painful.

I am measuring at 38 weeks and didn’t gain any weight from last week to this one.
The baby’s heart rate is still in the 130s, but I’m trying not to associate that with my gender guess.

Random cravings I have had recently include slurpees from 7-11 and Skittles.
I could have eaten Skittles and Chipotle every day this pregnancy, but I have refrained.

We have gotten some things done around the house in the last couple of weeks.
One of my biggest concerns was getting both of our cars cleaned inside & out.
I know that is really random, but it was really stressing me out.
Thankfully, that is done and it looks like we have two brand new vehicles.
The car seat has also been installed, so we’re good to come home from the hospital.

IMG_8412

IMG_8414

Items on the agenda include celebrating a second birthday, a prenatal massage,
picking up a couple more items for the hospital, and a haircut.
I’ll be working through next week or until the baby comes, whichever happens first.

Happy birthday @doubleg1011! The closest thing to NY bagels outside of NYC.

greg and i took friday off to do nothing. it was awesome.
it was also greg’s birthday so we hit up brooklyn bagel for
the best bagels outside of new york.

Untitled

only the best for my hubby on his birthday.
including holiday wrapping paper. #fail

Iceeeee creeeeeaaaaaam. #YummyTreat

after running errands on the other side of town on saturday, we hit up our one of our favorite places,
jason’s deli. kenley obviously loves the free soft serve ice cream with your lunch.

image

kenley got some more practice in with baby greyson. she was so sweet to him.

image

greg and i went out for what will probably (hopefully) be our last date night on saturday.
we opted for sushi. so good.

Untitled

we also hit up oktoberfest which was happening right in our community.
it was happening.

Weird pregnancy craving of the week. #cherry #coke #yum #37weeks

i should also mention that our date started at lowe’s to get toilet parts
and ended at 7-11 so i could get a slurpee i was craving.

Pumpkins!

we headed out to breakfast sunday morning (apparently we ate out a lot this weekend),
then went to the pumpkin patch!

as usual, this october weekend did not disappoint.
but, we’re also looking forward to more birthday fun this week,
and hopefully an actual birth day.

how was your weekend?

Nursery Nitty Gritty

First, thank you so much for the sweet comments on the nursery!
I’m hoping this post will answer some of the questions we’ve gotten,
but if not, leave a comment and I’ll answer anything else.

I haven’t shared any before pictures of this room, so I thought now would be a good time.
This is when we moved into the house.

IMG_4109

IMG_4110

Once we moved in, the room became the junk room.

IMG_6467

Overall, I am so impressed on how this nursery came together.
Gender neutral and nautical both tend to be a little bit more boyish,
which is why it looks more like a baby boy’s room than a baby girl’s, but that’s okay for now
and I don’t think a baby girl will mind too much until we get some more girly pieces in there.
The room is so cozy and warm, quite the opposite of Kenley’s bold and bright room,
which is what we were going for.
I thought two bright colored rooms right next to each other might be a little much.

IMG_8301

Now onto the details. We found the fan on Craigslist for only $75! It was an absolute steal,
especially once we realized that it retails for $259 (which is a little absurd, in my opinion).
This was one of the first purchases we made for the room because we couldn’t pass it up.

We’re using Kenley’s crib from Babies ‘R Us (bite marks and all), which has since been discontinued.

The curtains were somewhat of a splurge and are from West Elm, but I absolutely love them!
Even after I had to exchange them for the right color (plaster vs. slate – what horrible names
for two closely colored curtains). Plaster is the current color, the slate was way too dark.
They were also the most nautical looking curtains I have found. Did I mention I love them?
The curtain rod and ends are from IKEA.

IMG_8296

We got the oars as a shower gift (what a great gift right?) and I think they totally complete the room.
I wasn’t sure what would go over the crib until we received them and I immediately knew.
I have some ideas for them once we know what colors we’ll be adding to the room.

IMG_8307

The light is ALÄNG from IKEA and the boat wheel is from Hobby Lobby.

IMG_8297

The Threshold Criss Cross Fleece Rug (Gray) from Target was another one of those purchases I couldn’t pass up.
I had been eyeing it since it looks (to me) like a fishing net, but I hadn’t committed to it yet (why are rugs so expensive?).
During a trip to Target, I spotted it on sale and knew that my RedCard would save me an additional 5%, so I got it.
For your frame of reference, this is the 5×7 size.

IMG_8298

I ended up making this sheet myself with the Emily Herrick – Going Coastal – Sea Star in Gray fabric,
but I have to admit, it wasn’t my best work. I got super lazy in measuring the length and it is not as snug
as I would have liked, but it definitely works.

IMG_8303

We found the boat bookshelf off Craigslist as well and Greg sanded and painted it.

IMG_8282

Two other Craigslist purchases were the DIY ombre dresser and the three nautical pictures. The glider
is from Kenley’s room (also from Babies ‘R Us and now discontinued). The cute diaper caddy was a shower gift.

IMG_8286

We purchased the nautical map from a marina in Anna Maria Island, so it’s a legit nautical map.
After mulling over very large and expensive frames for the map, Greg decided to make his own out of molding.
It looks awesome.

My plan is to either add navy or light pink to this very grey room.
I unintentionally purchased the PBK Key West fitted crib sheet as I was randomly
passing through the store and saw it laying out. It was the very.last.one. known to man,
and as you can see it’s no longer available online, so I couldn’t pass it up.
If G2 is a girl, awesome, I will just get the matching crib skirt with a gift card I have.
If G2 is a boy, I will exchange it for the PBK Jackson crib sheet and get the skirt.
Other pink or navy blue trinkets will be added over time to make this room the baby’s own.

Thanks for letting me share this fun project. Now let’s put a baby in there!

my weekend in photos

One of the many, many reasons I love October... Breast cancer awareness month! Thanks Tijuana Flats for supporting a great cause. #tijuanaflats #thinkpink #october #ztathinkpink #savethetatas

we had tijuana flats for dinner on friday. love the breast cancer awareness.

image

as i headed to the couch, greg headed to the alterbridge concert at the house of blues.
it was awesome, according to him.

image

kenely and i did some shopping on saturday.
buy buy baby was one of our stops. completely overwhelming, but i love this store.

Just in case y'all were wondering where babies came from... They are not included with this baby carrier. #goodtoknow #duh

please note, baby not included!

image

since someone got up super early, i had to wake her at the two hour mark of her nap
in order to get out the door for sesame street live. we were still a half hour late.

image

we had great seats and i was surprised that kenley wasn’t afraid of the ginormous characters.
apologies for the horrible picture, but i didn’t get many.

image

she was not as enthralled with the show as she was for mickey mouse, but she did a good job.

image

after the show, we headed out for an early dinner. kenley and her friends had way too much fun running around.
luckily, there weren’t many others eating dinner at 4:30pm.

image

of course, we had to get dessert (or gassert as kenley calls it).

(Hopefully) my last pedi before baby. Team green! #represent

i snuck out for a quick pedi saturday night. hopefully my last before baby!
team green all the way.

image

just mowing the pavers.

kenley and i hung out all day today, which included doing a massive amount of laundry.
good thing she’s a good helper.

we had a busy and tiring weekend.
greg worked a lot, but we’re already looking forward to fun things planned next weekend.

how was yours?
