A couple weeks ago, Amanda mentioned how much she was loving the Honest Healing Balm. I couldn’t agree more, especially this week! Kenley took a spill on the playground this week and busted up her upper lip and nose. We’ve been putting the healing balm on it all week and what a difference it makes! We highly recommend this stuff.

Ralph Lauren is having a pretty good sale this week, including these long sleeve tees for $8! Shipping is free with promo code LOVE15 and don’t forget to go through ebates to get cash back too! I picked up two for Crosby for next fall.

Greg and I got caught up on Parenthood this week in preparation for the series finale that aired last night. We haven’t watched it yet, so no spoilers! I cannot believe the show is over. I may need to start back at the beginning again.

What are you loving this week?

15 Months

Crosby is 15 months old today! He had his 15 month checkup with the doctor today and he is right on track and doing well! It seems like we’ve been to the doctor a lot in the past two months. He’s had two ear infections recently which has caused him to be on antibiotics for more than I would have liked. We had to go back after the second infection to make sure his ears were clear, which they were, but then we ended up back in the office the following week because I was sure he had developed another one. The ears were clear, so it just seems like his molars are causing him to be uncomfortable.

15 Months

The climbing is still in full force and I don’t see it slowing down…ever. Not only can he climb up, he also does a remarkably good job of getting down. He can climb up onto our bed and when he is ready to get down, he just turns over onto his stomach and slides down feet first. It’s pretty impressive. He can also climb up onto the couch and the futon upstairs and he likes to walk back and forth before he is ready to climb down. Just because he CAN get down, doesn’t mean he does it perfectly every time. He still has his fair share of spills, but I am less concerned when he is up on the furniture these days, even though we aren’t promoting running around on the couch.

15 Months

Crosby’s favorite thing right now is cars. He LOVES them. He will hold them, roll them, chase after them, and talk about them all the time. He walks around pointing and saying “CA!” to anything that resembles a car. Cars, trucks, tractors, construction vehicles are all “cars”.

15 Months

He is a great eater most of the time and is doing much better with his green veggies. Some of his favorite foods are blueberries, peaches, nectarines, grapes, pears (really any fruit except for apples), chicken, goldfish, ham (but not ham and cheese together), grilled cheese, chicken nuggets, cooked carrots, toast, pasta, and Annie’s mac & cheese. He only drinks organic whole milk for breakfast, lunch and dinner, then has water throughout the day. He eats whatever we are having for dinner and usually does it without a fuss.

15 Months

Fifteen month notes:

Weight – 24 pounds 4 ounces (70th percentile)
Height – 30 3/4 inches (30th percentile)
Head – 18 inches (65th percentile)
Hair – He is on a regular haircut schedule, the next cut is Thursday.
Teeth – 9 total, 4 on top, 4 on bottom, and 1 molar finally popped through. The second one isn’t too far behind. I wish they would all just come in already!
Eyes – Brown (see above!)
Clothes –  Mostly 12-18 month, some 18-24 month pajamas & shirts.
Diapers – Cloth diapers by day, disposables by night, size 4
Likes – CARS, eating, shaking his head “no”, taking a bath, splashing in the bath, babbling, throwing balls (and toys), trying to repeat words, books, push toys, taking the front cover off the speaker (which is a no-no), going upstairs (both to play and to climb the stairs), climbing furniture, the kitchen stool, playing hide & seek, waving, clapping.
Dislikes – lying on his back to have his clothes changed, having his nose wiped, staying in one place.

Why doesn’t this Hooded Fleece Pea Coat come in my size? How adorable.

At the request of Greg, he wanted me to share that we’ve really been loving the new elevated kitchen utensils he got for Christmas. I didn’t realize how annoying it was to have the utensil resting on the counter until we got these. Plus, I like the fun colors too.

Related, I have been on my game and we had a pretty good lineup of dinners this week. I’m not sure if I have shared this before, but I made the one pot zucchini mushroom pasta for the second time and it was just as delicious (and easy) as I remember. You say “one pot” and you’re speaking my language.

The week started out great when the Hoosiers broke into the Top 25 and ended even better as we beat #13 Maryland at home last night and moved right up to the number one spot in the Big Ten.

More on Cloth Diapers

It has been quite a while since I first shared about our cloth diaper experience, so I want to give a big update on what we’ve learned and where we are today. This post is long overdue and has been sitting in my drafts for, er, over eight months. My apologies.

Crosby started using cloth diapers around two months old when Kenley was still in diapers, which seems like a lifetime ago. Two weeks of two kids in diapers and we were more than ready to start the potty training process. Oh, the laundry….so much laundry. One thing we learned very quickly was that the cloth diapers Kenley was wearing were not going to hold up for Crosby. The elastic was completely stretched out in all of her diapers since they were so heavily used for two whole years. Yep, we used the same diapers from start to finish with Kenley. There are refresher kits available to update the diapers to prolong the use, but the decision for us was to spend time updating our old diapers or spend money on buying new diapers. Time won and we decided to purchase some new diapers. Another reason I chose to buy new diapers for Crosby was that there were better diapers out now! Times were a-changing. I had purchased five of the new BumGenius Freetime diapers on sale for baby G2 and I immediately fell in love.

Quick recap, we used BumGenius 4.0 diapers with Kenley and loved them. The BumGenius brand is amazing and the diapers were great. The 4.0 diapers require you to stuff the inserts into the diaper cover. BumGenius then upped the game and made an all-in-one diaper (the Freetime) that required NO stuffing! Not only is there no stuffing, then are also less bulky than the 4.0 diapers, which is another reason I love them so much. I wanted to replace my entire stash with the Freetime diaper, but I ended up keeping a few other brands around. Here is the rundown of our diapers:

BumGenius Freetime – Again, love these! These are also available at Buy Buy Baby and you can use a coupon, making them only $15!

cloth diapers

BumGenius 4.0 – The Lovelace print was one of the last ones we got for Kenley, so we still use those two diapers. Crosby has rocked that print, but they are usually at the bottom of the pile since the elastic is getting pretty stretched out. Another good thing about the 4.0 is they double as swim diapers if you remove the inserts.

BumCheeks – I ordered one more BumCheeks to add to the two we had with Kenley. These require stuffing, but I really like the bamboo inserts. I have only ordered these off Baby Steals.

cloth diapers

Best Bottoms – I wanted to try a new brand this time around and Best Bottoms came highly recommended from a friend. They are a little bit different than the BumGenius brand as the insert snaps onto the cover. The cover grows with the baby, but the inserts do not, so they are sized small, medium, and large. The Best Bottoms are not bulky and the prints are adorable!

GroVia All-In-One – These have been my least favorite diapers, mainly because of the way they fit the kids. We used them far longer with Crosby than we did with Kenley, but they have been retired. The elastic around the legs was really tight, so they may fit babies with leaner legs a little better.

As far as our routine and other accessories, we really haven’t changed a thing. At home, we use cheap wash cloths as cloth wipes and they get washed with the diapers. The only annoying part is that I find them ALL over my house (clean, of course). We could not live without the BumGenius Diaper Sprayer, which has come in handy for many other reasons along the way (i.e. a puking toddler in the middle of the night). We rotate between two Planet Wise pail liners that hold the dirty diapers between washes and we have two Planet Wise wet bags for school and on the go. We had to replace one of the wet bags that we got for Kenley because the zipper broke, but the other is still going strong. They are very durable and have gone through the wash more times than I can count. I recently saw something that is called the Diaper Dawg and it looks amazing, but I can’t say for sure since we don’t have it. This is something that would be highly useful and one of those things where you ask yourself, why didn’t I think of that?

cloth diapers

This whole process is really second nature to us. We’ve been cloth diapering continuously for over three years now, which is mind blowing to me. I’m not really sure how that is possible. While cloth diapers are always our first choice, we do recognize that disposable diapers are sometimes just more convenient. The rare occasions that Crosby has a diaper rash (most likely from antibiotics), we lather him up with diaper cream and put him in a disposable until his rash is gone. He wears a disposable every night and whenever we are traveling. Sometimes if we will be out for an extended amount of time, we’ll opt for disposables. We have really only bought the Up & Up brand of diapers from Target which have worked great for both of our kids and they are far cheaper than the name brands.

What other burning questions do you have that I didn’t cover? Who is considering cloth diapering?

Lindsey’s Surprise Sprinkle

Our good friend Lindsey is due next month with a baby girl! So naturally, Sally, Kristy, and I wanted to throw her a little sprinkle to celebrate baby Kennedy’s arrival. If you remember when Sally was pregnant with Margot, we started what is now a tradition of making sure the sprinkle shower is a surprise. They returned the favor for me before baby G2 was born at my surprise sprinkle. So of course, Lindsey was not getting away with knowing about her own sprinkle in advance.

We sent out the invitations before the holidays then got to work after the holidays on all the party details. The invitations were done by Kimberly J Design and they were so cute!

We wanted to do a sprinkle theme so our menu included: chocolate covered pretzels with sprinkles, chocolate covered strawberries with sprinkles, fruit salad and dip, Donut King donut holes, homemade funfetti sheet cake, and raspberry lemonade. Sally and I both found the fruit dip on DoughmesticHousewife‘s Instagram page. Great minds think alike! It is one block of very soft cream cheese and one small tub of marshmallow fluff. So easy and so delicious!

The adorable tassle garland is from The Flair Exchange and was in our swag bag from the last Meet + Make. We definitely put it to good use and it was the perfect party decor.

After we mingled, got hopped up on sugar, and played a cute little shower game, Lindsey opened her gifts.

We had such a great time celebrating baby Kennedy’s arrival. We just can’t wait to meet her!

Our first trip to Legoland

We headed to Legoland last month, so I wanted to make sure I shared some pictures from our first time there! We didn’t make it through the whole park, but we’ll definitely be back soon.

Legoland

Legoland

Kenley rode several rides and I was really surprised how much she loved them.

Legoland

Crosby was able to ride a few too, which was great considering his age. The park is really geared towards kids ages 2 to 12, so that was definitely a selling point for us.

Since we went right before the new year, all of the Christmas decorations were still up! I am amazed of what can be made out of Legos.

We all really loved the Mini Land which showcased cities, as well as Star Wars all made out of Legos.

Duplo Valley was a big hit for our kids. Kenley kept pointing out all the Duplos that we have, so it was fun for her to see them in “real life.”

The weather was warmer than normal for that time of year, but we had a great time. We’re looking forward to see the attractions we missed and also hit up the water park this summer.

this may be my favorite spot on campus tucked away in the tech commons.

melissa was in town this weekend so we had some friends over on friday night. cards against humanity happened.

after a rough saturday morning (at 10:30am) kenley and i headed to target. she declared as soon as we walked in that she was going to get a card for daddy, and we did just that.

it was so good to see melissa! we headed downtown for dinner on saturday night and watched the late football game over a tower of beer. good food and good friends. it was a good night.

the last thing i wanted to do this morning was get up at 5:20 to go running in the 50 degree weather, but i did it and i am so glad that i did. our run was great and i felt like a different person afterwards. and the cooler weather turned out to be amazing.
