my weekend in photos

the kids were out of school this past week on spring break so meemaw and grandpa came down to visit.

we were so thankful to have them here helping out and keeping the kids occupied. they loved having them here too.

there were lots of trips to the park throughout the week.

saturday morning fun at mygym working on teamwork and balancing. kenley got to go to the gym twice this week and asked if we were going back today. needless to say, she loves it.

crosby loved watching the dogs at hudson’s house. he also loved “rawr-ing” at them.

we all loved celebrating hudson’s first birthday this weekend!

the weather was gorgeous this weekend.

this morning started at 3:30am for me…yes you read that right. kayla and i headed over to the east coast for the tomoka half marathon. watching the sun come up over the water was so pretty. it turned out to be a great race for the both of us even though we had to cross that bridge twice. a full recap is coming this week.

she and i headed out for a couple errands this evening and picked up dinner. i’m not sure when she got so old.

we had a great last weekend of march and the kids had a great week off school. we’re all looking forward to getting back to our normal routine tomorrow and embracing all the busyness that is coming in april.
hope you all had a great weekend too!

Happy last Friday of March!

The article Move Over, Barbie: New Run Doll Line Expanding popped up on Facebook this week from another running mama, which led me to Go! Go! Sports Girls. How did I not know about these dolls? AMAZING.

I love that Rachel Hollis’ bikini photo is going viral, stretch marks and all. Naturally, I started following her on Instagram this week.

I think I’ve mentioned before how much we love the Re-Play plates, bowls, cups, etc. for the kids. How cute is this spring sorbet set?

Easter is right around the corner! I’ve seen this Bunny Hop Sweatshirt floating around various blog posts this week, but I had to share. Does it get any cuter than this?

17 Months

Little man is 17 months old today!

17 Months

I totally jinxed us last month when I mentioned how great he had been sleeping. Daylight Savings Time really messed us up this month (me included!). Crosby went through a rough week or so and had a strong opinion about not going to sleep on his own at bedtime. There were a couple nights where he thrashed around in his crib just long enough to be overtired and he wouldn’t let himself go to sleep. Begrudgingly, we rubbed his back until he fell asleep on those nights and then he was up a couple more times in the night. This is definitely not a habit we wanted to get started. After a couple nights and us finally deciding to let him figure it out, he has been back on track. With the time change, we were putting him down a little later, but now we are making a point to start reading books by 7:00pm so he isn’t extremely tired by the time he goes in his crib. His teachers do have to rub his back to sleep at school sometimes because he just doesn’t want to stop playing. He will try to get off his cot and run around. At home, it really depends on the day. Sometimes he will go right down for naps, other days we will rub his back to get him to calm down.

Another monthly update and another ear infection. We are getting pretty good about figuring out when he has one, which is good I guess. On Monday, the doctor said it wasn’t a full blown ear infection, but it was infected nonetheless; enter yet another round of antibiotics. This ear infection didn’t knock him out as much as the last one, thankfully; but he hasn’t had a fever with either of the last two, so that’s definitely a common symptom that doesn’t apply to C man apparently.

Each day he is more and more like a toddler. He tries to repeat anything that you say and will babble on and on. He has a handful of words that are clear, but he also has a big sister that does a lot of his talking for him. She will frequently report that “he wants more milk” or “he said more please”. He is starting to say words that he also signing which is fun. He is very into his books right now and his teachers say that he’s a very good listener when it comes to reading books at school. He will sit on the floor and listen intently. I think this is the only time he’s not on the go, when there is a book around. We try to keep his bedtime consistent with Kenley’s, so we read 3-5 books at bedtime (Kenley reads 3 books to prevent the “one more book” stalling bedtime game to go on and on). He is at the age where the excuse “he’s a baby” doesn’t really apply anymore but still is too young to understand certain things, which is totally confusing to Kenley. She definitely thinks it should be a fair playing field so when he does something he’s not supposed to, she’s right there with him saying “but Crosby did it.” They sure are funny together though.

Seventeen month notes:

Weight – Between 25 and 26 pounds
Hair – He has totally lost his baby hair. Since his last haircut his hair is now coarse and officially “little boy” hair.
Teeth – 12
Eyes – Brown
Clothes – I said I was only buying 2T, but I had to buy some 18-24 month short sleeve tees for him. He had mostly long sleeve tees and it decided to become summer all of a sudden so we needed some shirts stat. I believe he has moved up to 18-24 months clothes in all areas, but he’s not quite ready for 2T yet.
Diapers – Cloth diapers by day, disposables by night, size 4
Likes – Playing hide and seek, yelling “rawr”, saying “shhhh” (with his finger over his lips), cars, books, reading, Daniel Tiger, running, climbing, opening doors, being outside, playing at MyGym, food…all food, playing in the teepee, riding in the wagon, push toys, stacking blocks (then knocking them down), throwing things in the garbage
Dislikes – Taking an antibiotic, getting his clothes or diaper changed, being hungry, sitting in his high chair without any food

beautiful saturday morning on campus. not a cloud in the sky.

maggi (gg) came to visit for the weekend!

this boy absolutely loved the splash pad.

she enjoyed the splash pad for about ten minutes but had a lot more fun playing at the park.

being goofy with gg.

after a very late night watching basketball and very little sleep, i headed out for six miles this morning. we ran on a new trail which was pretty, but the run was painful. my right calf needs some nursing this week before my race next weekend.

after some shopping and basketball, we hit up tijuana flats for dinner. oh and meemaw joined us here in florida too!

tired selfie.

we had such a fun weekend and are so thankful that gg came to visit. we are looking forward to a fun week ahead with meemaw and grandpa and the kids are looking forward to a fun spring break.

Friday I’m in Love

Happy Friday!

If you’re new to these parts, every Friday we {myself, MishaMary BethAmanda, and Laura} share what we’re loving each week. We’d love for you to join! Share anything, from the big things to the little things, whatever makes you happy! Let’s get to it!

Some probably think I am a selfish mom because I sometimes rearrange our family calendar so I can go for a run; I make a point to go out with the girls; I am working to advance my career; and the list goes on and on; but, all of these things keep me sane and actually makes me a better mom (and wife). So selfish moms, read on: To All the Selfish Moms

We hit up the Old Navy spring break sale last weekend to stock up on some things for the kids and I snagged a the Pixie chino for me. I had heard good things about the Pixie so I definitely wanted to try them. They are a little bit more form fitting than some of my other pants, but they are SO comfy!! I got the classic khaki, but I definitely want to get a couple other colors.

Let’s talk food. I have tried a couple new recipes lately that I must share. The first is Crock Pot Turkey Chili. It was really good and as an added bonus, it’s from Skinny Taste so it’s also good for you! The second one is Cheesy Chicken Broccoli and Rice Casserole. Greg has declared this to be in his top five favorite meals I make and it’s all about the rotisserie chicken. You have to try it! Lastly, I have been making overnight oats for breakfast this week and I’m definitely onto something. Hopefully I’ll have some good concoctions to share with you soon.

While I was falling into the Instagram rabbit hole, I came across Stately Type and I am in love. I have a weird love of maps, geography, and the United States, so these tees are right up my alley.

You didn’t think I was going to go through this whole blog post without mentioning March Madness did you? Well it’s finally here, the best four days of college basketball. Back to back games, bracket busters, everything. I love it. Kenley filled out her first bracket this year. I gave her the two mascots of each game and she picked one of them until her whole bracket was filled. Now it’s time for the Hoosiers to bring it!

2015 Big Ten Men's Basketball Tournament

// source //

March Madness is right around the corner and the B1G Tournament well underway. The Hoosiers played last night and live to see another day! They will play Maryland tonight at 6:30pm! This is getting me very excited for the nonstop basketball watching that will be happening next week.

I attended my third Meet + Make last night hosted by Sarah Hearts at West Elm. We painted a set of glassware, had delicious treats, chatted with friends, and made a wish list of everything I want from West Elm (which is basically the entire store).

I had been thinking about jumping on the essential oils bandwagon for a while. After Crosby’s last ear infection, I decided to take the plunge. I ordered the Young Living starter kit and it arrived this week! I will admit that I am a little overwhelmed at all of the options and possibilities but I am so excited to learn more and incorporate the oils into our lives. I’m sure I’ll be sharing my favorites soon enough!

friday night selfie.

greg and i headed out for a date night. we are hoping to become wine drinkers this year, so it works out well that cooper’s hawk recently opened close to our house.

saturday marked kenley’s first class at mygym. she had a great time!

this little guy got a hair cut and is now five.

let me just start by saying daylight savings time is the worst. kayla and i got up way to early to try to get in 10 miles this morning. we settled with 8. my body is definitely feeling the 19 miles i put in this week. however, it turned out to be a gorgeous morning, so it felt good to get in a run.

after nap time (for everyone) we headed to daddy’s work for mickey’s magic show!

we had a great time at the show and goofy shook kenley’s hand! she also said her favorite part was cinderella. crosby did a good job at the show.

10 Processed Foods to Never Feed Your Kids

This article popped up in a mommy group this week and it was pretty eye opening. I will admit we regularly have goldfish crackers in our house, but now I am going to make a point to buy the Annie’s brand crackers now. I am happy to see that Chipotle is listed as a good alternative since that is pretty much the only fast food establishment we frequent with the kids.

On Wednesday, a group of eight ladies got together for Craft Night 2.0 at Sally’s house. This was our second craft night this year (hence the 2.0). I brought over my Cricut machine and we all monogrammed our own tumbler. It was a fun craft, but it was more fun chatting with these ladies. We are all somehow intertwined through our various circles – friends, coworkers, church, mommy groups, etc. so it was great meeting new faces and catching up with old friends. Not to mention, Sally made some killer brownies. It’s nice to be able to get out for some good, adult conversation on a random Wednesday night.

My mom got these boots for Kenley for Christmas and I get compliments on them ALL the time! We love them. Kenley chooses to wear them almost everyday and they are still in great condition. I have not had the same luck with Old Navy boots, so I will be shopping the Target selection from now on.
