friday night date night at cooper’s hawk. we are now proud members of the wine club so we will be getting our wine on more often. i’m excited!

Untitled

let me tell you, the last thing i wanted to do the next morning was get up and run 10 miles, but that’s why you have a running buddy… to hold you accountable. we knocked at 10 miles and felt pretty good afterwards. we weren’t as concerned with pace as we were just finishing. running in the summer is no joke. this was my longest run before the rock n roll half marathon in chicago next month!

saturday night was our first time getting the spa going… which worked out well seeing how i ran 10 miles that morning. greg and i enjoyed a little quiet time to ourselves after the kids were in bed.

we had a great, mostly relaxing weekend and are definitely looking forward to the holiday weekend coming up. how was your weekend?!

20 Months

Just this week Crosby’s vocabulary has exploded. Greg was gone for a few days for work and was shocked when he came back to see how much he’s changed. Thankfully his words are starting to flow because he had a couple weeks where he was very frustrated that he couldn’t communicate properly what he really wanted to say. There was a lot whining and pointing and getting upset at us because we kept asking for him to use his words. He is putting two words together now like ‘hi daddy’ and ‘here go’. He continues to sign, but also says the words. His favorite word right now is ‘no’ and my favorite that he says is ‘yeah’ as he says it so perfectly and in the right context.

20 Months

He is becoming quite the toddler and asks to ‘walk’ when we get to school. He knows he must hold hands, so he will grab mine and reach out to grab Kenley’s hand as we make our way up the sidewalk. It’s really cute. When you are holding him and he doesn’t want to be held, he points to the ground repeating ‘down down down’.

Crosby moved into a new class this month as school ended and summer camp began. He has graduated from the infant department and moved over to the toddler department. Side note: Kenley moved from the toddler department to preschool….how is that even possible? Crosby is enjoying his new class and we are getting reports that he loves to climb on everything in the new room… not surprising. He can now climb up into his high chair and has gotten up onto the kitchen table a handful of times. The most recent time ended in him falling onto the chair and then onto the floor and he hasn’t climbed back up there since. However, we are constantly reminding him to keep his ‘feet on the floor’.

Since the move to the new room, his nap time has been around an hour so by the time 7pm rolls around, he is ready for bed. His new thing is to sleep sideways in his crib with his feet sticking out of the rails. He will also push his feet against the wall and slide his crib away from the wall. Each morning we go in and see that it’s about six inches away from the wall. I’m not really sure how it’s comfortable, but whatever works I guess. He does take a little bit longer nap at home on the weekends. He loves sleeping with his lovies and using them as chew toys as new four new teeth pop through.

Crosby is doing very well with his animal sounds, he can identify a circle, and we are working on his colors. He loves to name different types of vehicles (cars, trucks, airplanes, trains, and construction equipment) and he is really getting into trains. Of the few train tables we have been around, it’s been hard to pull him away. He also loves our Lego train set and will drive Lego cars around the tracks. I think this will make shopping for his birthday easy come October.

Friday I’m in Love

Happy Friday! Head over and check out what these ladies are loving:

Misha // Mary Beth // Amanda // Laura // Aileen // Jessica // and welcome to Ashley!

Recently, the Bentgo Kids lunchbox was on a lightning deal on Amazon. We snagged a couple and already love them! They are excellent for packing lunches and are a great size. I don’t fill the compartments all the way to the top yet, so there is still room to grow with them. I’ve already started making a list of healthy items to pack in the kids’ lunches for a quick reference once school starts back up again in the fall.

Greg is an avid ice coffee drinker, so he got a Contigo Shake & Go tumbler for Father’s Day last weekend. Since he was out of town this week, I confiscated it. It’s pretty sweet. You can shake up your coffee then pop the straw in. I would imagine this is also good for smoothies and shakes too!

t h r e e

I finally ordered Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead by Sheryl Sandberg for my Kindle (which ended up being free thanks to my Amazon credits!) and I am excited to start reading it (you know, in all my free time). While I was learning more about the book, I came across Sheryl’s TED talk: Why we have too few women leaders from 2010… yes, I realize I’m a little behind the times. If you’re so inclined, listen to it. It has me very excited to read the book!

Your turn! Tell us what you’re loving in the comments or link back to your own post, we’d love to see!

I love maps & geography so when I saw this floating around Facebook, I had to do one for the states I’ve visited.

Create Your Own Visited States Map

I need to get traveling!

If you’ve ever visited Chicago, you may know of this place called Portillo’s. It is pretty much amazing and the day after the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Stanley Cup Finals, Portillo’s announced they are coming to Tampa in 2016! Holler!

I love Instagram giveaways and I am frequently tagging friends on Instagram to enter said giveaways. This week it paid off as I won one!! I now have a shop credit to Little Peanut Threads and kate&jAMES shop! Don’t worry, I’ll fill you in on what I end up choosing for the kiddos.

A huge thanks to @caytlynpacific@littlepeanutthreads and @kateandjames_shop!

My Favorites // Running Gear

My apologies for the premature post yesterday, I definitely wanted to write more about each item so I am re-posting today.

***

I’ve complied a list of my favorite gear to use on runs and during races. I don’t use each of these every single time I run, but they are definitely frequently used for me.

my favorite running gear

Camelbak Charm

I use my Camelbak on long runs in the summer months. It is way to hot to be running without hydration. I love my water ice cold and this definitely keeps it that way. I usually fill it up with ice and water the night before my run and put it in the fridge so I can just grab and go in the morning. One very important trick is to turn it upside down and suck all of the air out of the pouch after you fill it up with water. This prevents the water from sloshing around when you are running. You’re welcome.

Simple Hydration Water Bottle

I mentioned a couple weeks ago that I needed some hydration for shorter runs since it’s been getting so humid out (even at 6am!). I got several recommendations and decided on the simple hydration water bottle for the sole reason that I can stick it in my Flip Belt (see below) and not have to carry it in my hand. I really like it so far and it provides the perfect amount of water for shorter runs. The only downfall is that my water doesn’t stay ice cold, but I will live.

Flip Belt

I seriously could go on and on about how amazing the Flip Belt is. This belt is so handy, I wear it every single time I run to hold my iPhone 6 and my key fob for my car. On race day, I also carry a couple GU packs and my driver’s license or credit card if I need them.

Road ID

Safety first… I usually am running with someone else, but most of the time I’m not sure if anyone else would know who my emergency contact is or how to get a hold of him. Hopefully no one will ever have to use it, but just in case, I have it.

Garmin Forerunner 220

This is the second Garmin I have had and I will never run without one. I am very OCD when it comes to logging miles and I will run up and down the street in order to get the last .05 miles just to hit my goal. The 220 is amazing and does everything I need it to do and more.

Cocogo

I love using Cocogo in my Camelbak or water bottle during the summer months. It is not only delicious, but also hydrating, especially during longer runs. Depending on how much water I take with me during the run, I will put 1-3 packets in my water.

Body Glide

I’m going to put it out there… chaffing happens when you run. I religiously use body glide in areas that are prone to chaffing, especially on long runs. I always use it where my sports bra rubs against my skin and on my feet to avoid getting blisters as much as I can. The possibilities are endless and you should definitely have some of this on hand.

Runningluv

This little towel is wonderful year around. In the cooler months, I use it to wipe my runny nose and it in the hotter months I use it to catch my dripping sweat. It fits around my hand or wrist so I don’t feel like I’m actually carrying it, which is a huge win in my book.

***

I am continuously reminded that running is an expensive sport. Most of these items listed above were either birthday or Christmas gifts, so add them to your wish list! I also am always on the hunt for good deals when searching for running gear. I am also planning to do a round up on my favorite running apparel, so stay tuned!

What is some of your favorite running gear?

Ya’ll know how much I love my Simplified Planner. Well, there is now a Simplified Planner app which was released this week and I am so excited for this handy electronic sidekick to accompany my planner.

t h r e e

Mary Beth has mentioned Sheryl Sandberg a few times and I have added her book Lean In to my wish list, but I haven’t read anything by her yet… until now. This week Sheryl posted the most heart wrenching, yet beautiful and inspiring post I’ve ever read regarding the sudden death of her husband. I will definitely be reading her book. You can read the post on Facebook or on Today.

Misha mentioned this last week, but I feel it’s worth noting again. Oh Joy Band-Aids are now available at Target! This is big news for those of you who have toddlers who live for Band-Aids, much like Kenley does. I bought three boxes in order to get the free Oh Joy Striped First Aid bag which is adorable! This is definitely going to be my new carrying case for my oils.

Most importantly, this was a huge week for Charlotte Reece. She had a successful surgery on Tuesday and we are all so thankful. Please continue to keep Charlotte and her family in your thoughts and prayers. You can also follow along with her journey at Charlotte’s story: childhood liver cancer.

Your turn! What are you loving this week?

Soccer // Spring 2015

Kenley’s first soccer season has come to an end. She had a good time practicing and playing each week. I think overall she did a great job even though her attention span was short at times. However, she always looked forward to the post-game team snack. I shared a lot of pictures from her first game, but not many since, so here are some more action shots from her first season.
