22 Months

Oh this sweet boy. I can’t believe he’s going to be 2 soon.

22 Months

Crosby’s vocabulary has exploded this month and I don’t expect that to slow down, especially since he’s started in a new class this week. He loves talking about cars, trucks, choo choos, and diggers the most, but he will really repeat any word you say. He can name most of the trucks in the Slide and Find – Trucks book, including tow truck, fire truck, and garbage truck. It really comes out as “cruck” which is really cute. All other trucks are “big crucks”. He also loves Little Blue Truck and Where Do Diggers Sleep at Night? Both of which are mommy’s favorite books too. His other true love is choo choos… he cannot get enough of them. He loves his Lego train at home and each morning at school he’s gone straight to the basket with the trains inside and pulls out the Thomas trains. He doesn’t know they are Thomas, they are just “choo choos” to him. He will also yell “all aboard!” when he talks about his choo choos too. We may have already gotten him his birthday present and are already so excited to give it to him just knowing how much he’s going to love it.

Crosby is a lover for sure. On Monday when his friend arrived at school, Crosby dropped everything and walked over to him and said “Hi Huck!” and embraced him in a big hug. Multiple people said it was the cutest thing ever and it doesn’t surprise me in the least. He loves hugging, kissing, and cuddling. After we have finished our three bedtime books, he will turn to wrap his arms around my neck and lay his head on my shoulder. I’m sure he knows that this is the best way to delay bedtime, but we’ll cuddle for a few minutes before he turns out the light for bedtime. We also get frequent reports that he does a great job sharing. He will give his friends toys as soon as they arrive to class. He’s our little sweet boy for sure.

IMG_3743

He is still doing a great job eating and will try almost anything. He still really doesn’t like bananas and every once in a while he won’t eat much for dinner, but that’s not the norm. He’s starting to use his fork and spoon regularly and while he still uses a sippy or straw cup, he can drink out of a regular cup while under supervision. Just like his sister, he does really well when we stick to a routine. He does a great job going to bed and rarely makes a peep from his crib after he goes down. I can tell he’s been worn out this week because he’s gone to bed around 7:15pm each night and has slept soundly until around 6:45am.

Twenty-two month notes:
Weight – I have no clue, which means we haven’t seen the doctor lately, yay!
Hair – Now that it’s a little shorter, it’s lightened up.
Teeth – 16
Eyes – Brown
Clothes – 2T; size 6 or 7 shoes
Diapers – Cloth diapers by day, disposables by night, size 4
Likes – Playing with the Magformers, doing puzzles, reading books, any automobile or construction vehicle, saying “rawr”, doing anything and everything his sister does, climbing up and down the stairs, running, giving hugs and kisses, Lego Duplos, trying to play with Kenley’s little Legos, putting anything in his mouth, Play-Doh, swimming and jumping in the pool,
Dislikes – Getting his diaper or clothes changed, when he doesn’t have his milk at dinner, the dinosaur skeletons at the Orlando Science Center

Lately…

the blog has been more quiet than usual this summer but I wanted to fill you in a little bit on what’s been going on in these parts.

I’m sure you have picked up on this, but we put in a pool! It was finally finished at the beginning of June so we’ve been enjoying it all summer long. I plan to do a separate post with lots of before, during, and after pictures, so stay tuned.

This summer, work has been insanely busy. On top of that, I taught a class for six weeks for my third summer semester. While challenging, it was a great learning experience for me. In the midst of all the craziness, I was glad to see the six weeks come to an end when they did. I am already looking forward to teaching the class again next summer and implementing some new ideas.

Since this summer has been such a whirlwind, I have gotten really behind on my blog reading and our house projects have come to a complete stop. I am missing both. I am in desperate need of some inspiration, creativity, and a new project. I have a couple projects in mind and we have slowly begun talking about some things we want to do to the house, so I am excited about that. I am planning to carve out some time for blogging myself, as well as reading my favorite blogs too. Speaking of being creative, we’ve got a couple birthdays coming up, so I’m already thinking about fun party planning ideas!

The kids went to the same school for summer camp since school ended at the beginning to June. They had last week off and got to spend some time at home with me, Greg, and Meemaw since she was so nice to come down to help out. We are looking forward to this school year as they both are new in classes with new teachers. We are looking forward to getting back into our normal routine which started this week! The kids started school on Monday donning their adorable school uniforms and they weren’t the only ones. I am taking a graduate course this fall online and have been tossing around the idea of going back to school. I’m super excited about the class and am really looking forward to being a student again.

Untitled

I think that pretty much catches us up to the present tense. Fall is underway (you know, since I live my life by what semester it is) and we are looking forward to lots of fun things happening between now and the end of the year. I promise I’ll get back on my blogging game here soon.

Untitled

we didn’t do much friday night other than watch the rain come down hard for hours. the pool was almost overflowing on saturday morning.

Untitled

saturday included a trip to the ymca and yard work for greg. our friends came over after nap time, but due to the rain, yet again, we had an indoor party.

Untitled

unfortunately we waited too long to get a group shot, so this was the best we could do. bed time for everyone!

Untitled

this morning we had our semi-annual virtual 5k/10k race with the running club. it was a great morning with the other mamas and we pretty much crushed our 5k.

c man got a haircut today! it’s a little shorter than i would have liked, but it’ll be grown out in no time.

i had my first aldi experience today and the verdict is that i’ll definitely be back. this one opened not too far from our house so i’ll be taking advantage of it.

Friday I’m in Love

Hi ya’ll! I’m excited to be back in full force with our Friday I’m in Love posts! Let’s get to it.

Target announced this week they are moving away from gender-based signs in their stores, especially in departments like bedding and toys. This caused quite the commotion this week on the interweb, but I’m a fan. Who says girls can’t play with “boy” toys and vice versa?

t w o

A friend and colleague of mine was featured on the Huffington Post this week for her wonderful piece “Let Theatre Take You to a New World — Without Ringing, Glowing Phones“. Love it!

Summer is winding down and that means football season is right around the corner. I love this story about Notre Dame unveiling their new uniforms but also surprising a walk on senior with a scholarship. Watch the video here. I may have shed a few tears.

Rock ‘N’ Roll Chicago Half Marathon {Race Recap}

Last month, I headed up to Chicago to celebrate Mary Beth’s upcoming wedding at her bachelorette party! In the months leading up to my trip, a mom in our running group had posted that she was running the Rock ‘N’ Roll Half Marathon in Chicago. I randomly checked the date and noticed it was going to be the same weekend I was going to be in Chicago! I realize that it is probably not common to want to run a half marathon the morning after a bachelorette party, but I ultimately decided to sign up because I knew that I would be upset with myself if I was there and had decided not to do it.

I arrived early on Saturday morning and headed straight to the expo to pick up my race packet. This race was a lot of “firsts” for me, including my first large race expo. It was huge!

Untitled

I didn’t have a ton of time to browse the expo, but I was there long enough to pick up my packet and shirt, purchase a pint glass and some GUs, and stock up on some free samples. Michael & Rachel were on their way to pick me up so after the expo, I got to hang out with them. I spent the rest of the day hanging around Chicago with Michael, Rachel, and Celeste until it was time to get the party started and celebrate the bride-to-be!

After an awesome night celebrating MBK all over the city of Chicago with some of my favorite girls, I got up and headed down to Grant Park where the race was starting. Another first for me was the size of this race. It was huge! I was slated for corral 28 out of 33 total, meaning I was waiting in line to start the race for about 30 minutes. I think I ended up starting with corral 26 by the time I was actually at the start line and ready to go.

This is where I started in my corral and the start line was actually on a different street.

Untitled

This is when I turned onto said street and could actually see the start line.

Untitled

I will let the pictures speak for themselves, but overall the race itself was amazing, but how could it not be when you’re running through the city of Chicago? There was entertainment along the course and we ran by so many of the Chicago landmarks. I was able to see Michael and Rachel on the course twice which was so great. It gave me something to look forward to as the miles rolled by. After I saw them for the second time, I knew I wouldn’t see them again until the finish line. The race course took us too far south for them to go down there. There was a small portion of the course where we were passing runners ahead of us. I knew one of our local running buddies, Dave was somewhere in the mix and if I was going to see him then it was going to be at that time between miles 8 and 9. I made a point to look for him the whole time and I finally spotted him…and it was just what I needed to see, a familiar face. The rest of the miles were long and hot and I did a lot more walking at the end of the race. I was beat. By mile 8 my watch was clocking me a full mile ahead of where I really was which was mentally challenging. I figured it had to do with the tall buildings downtown messing up the GPS, but that wasn’t something I thought about going into the race. It was tough, my final distance by my watch was 14.1 miles, which was obviously not right.

My official time was 2:26:37 with an overall pace of 11:11 min/mile and I placed 5,917 out of 12,075 runners. I am very pleased with my time considering how much I crammed into about 36 hours in Chicago. After the race I went back to the hotel to shower and say goodbye to my friends before I was off to Midway to catch my flight. I was back home in Orlando by 6pm that night completely and utterly exhausted. It was such a great two days in Chicago.

my [long] weekend in photos

i took friday off and after not doing so hot with my runs all week, i hopped on the treadmill for a hilly three mile interval workout. great way to start the long weekend!

Untitled

greg and i packed up the car and picked the kids up from school just before nap time to head south. thanks florida weather for making it an enjoyable ride.

after swimming, we took the kayak out. it was short lived, but still fun.

Untitled

the kids did some fishing. also short lived.

Untitled

crosby and i went out for starbucks on saturday morning and got to see some trucks around town. cars in hand, watching trucks, and getting pushed around in the stroller made him a happy camper.

we had a few visitors at the dock on saturday after all the rain.

it was crazy to see them that close.

Untitled

i tackled that bridge twice during my six mile run on sunday morning. my legs were definitely feeling it.

Untitled

it sure was a pretty run as the sun was coming up, but i missed my running buddies!

Untitled

a little beach time before heading home. the water felt amazing.

Untitled

on the way home, we hit up the rays game and it worked out perfectly that they were playing the mets!

Untitled

poor kenley needs a new mets shirt!

Untitled

kenley kept asking if mr. met was going to be at the game and it was hard explaining that he probably wouldn’t be there since it was an away game for the mets. she was so excited to see him when we got there!

Untitled

ashley & britton met us at the game so it was great to hang out with them.

we had a great weekend away at grammy’s house, but we were very sad that grammy wasn’t there! it’s hard to believe summer is coming to an end and school is starting in two short weeks.
