how was your weekend?

23 Months

One more month and this boy is two years old. I cannot even believe it.

23 Months

It’s funny how at this age Kenley was all about saying “yeah” because Crosby is all about saying “yes”. At times it seems like he says it with a little bit of a lisp, but whenever you ask him a question the answer is always an emphatic “yes!”. That’s not to say he doesn’t give us our fair share of “no” whenever he doesn’t want to do something, but more times than not, it’s “yes”.

IMG_3753

Crosby has been learning so much in his new class. He can count to 10, but counts to 5 more frequently. He loves singing and his favorites are Old MacDonald, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes, but his all time favorite is Wheels on the Bus. If you start singing any other song, he will say “wheel bus!!!!” until you start singing that song. He is quite the little parrot and will repeat anything you say. He’s also starting to speak in sentences. While he was home sick this week, Greg took him to get a treat and after one bite he said “I like it, Daddy”. I almost didn’t believe Greg when he told me. The one thing that he still needs to work on is his colors. He rarely gets one right and he’s usually all over the board. This week everything is green, even if you tell him five times what the color is, he is still adamant it’s green. I am starting to think he may be colorblind, but Greg thinks he does it because he thinks it’s funny.

IMG_3755

By far the cutest thing that has happened this month is that Crosby started using a pillow and he loves it. He’s still in his crib so we hadn’t really thought about giving him a pillow until he had a cough and we thought he could benefit from being elevated. It turns out that we should have done it a while ago. He sleeps on it most of the night which is surprising since he usually is ALL over his crib throughout the night. We keep talking about when we’ll move him to a toddler bed, but we really don’t know yet. It’s crazy to think that Kenley has been in a toddler bed since she was 18 months old.

One thing that Crosby is a little ahead of Kenley on at this age is his interest in the potty. He has gone on the potty a couple of times (mostly because Greg rushed him in there just at the right time), but he is all about it. He likes to sit on the potty (again, another one of those questions he will usually answer “yes” to); and he LOVES flushing the toilet. He would do it all day if we would let him. He currently has a little potty in Kenley’s bathroom, but isn’t afraid to sit on the big potty either. We’ll see how it progresses over the next couple of months.

Twenty-three month notes:
Weight – About 27 pounds (I spoke too soon last month with the no doctor comment, we’ve been three times in the last week)
Hair – It’s hard getting a successful haircut at this age.
Teeth – 16
Eyes – Brown
Clothes – 2T; size 7 shoes; some 3T pajamas
Diapers – Cloth diapers by day, disposables by night, size 5
Likes – Jake and the Neverland Pirates and the Jake Duplo Legos, Magformers, books, puzzles, flushing the toilet, running around the house with Kenley, standing on the couch, Mickey Mouse, bath time, swimming, the Little People school bus and airplane, dumping his toys out everywhere, coloring, singing songs, giving hugs, sharing toys with his friends, putting shoes on, repeating everything you say, using a spoon.
Dislikes – Getting his diaper or clothes changed, having his nose wiped.

Friday I’m in Love

Happy last Friday of September! If you’re new here, on Fridays we share what we’re loving each week. It can be anything…and really, it’s always the little things that are the best. There are deets at the bottom on how you can join in on the fun, too. Let’s get started…

o n e

It’s officially fall!! If you are actually experiencing fall right now, I am jealous. According to this, Orlando won’t start feeling fall until October 28th….. bummer. It’s ok though, because this week, I got out ALL of the fall decorations so at least the inside of my house feels like fall…. then this weekend we will go jump in the pool and pretend like it’s still summer. #floridaproblems

This…all. of. this. I have caught myself singing “when bedtime comes, I will sing hallelujah” this week. Catchy and yet so true.

Honorable mention this week goes to 100 Moves Dance Scenes Mashup to Uptown Funk

This is truly one of those little things, but I seriously love our pediatrician’s office. We’ve made THREE visits to the office in the past week and each time they have gotten us an appointment within the hour and this week even stayed a little late to make sure we were seen. I was already feeling so thankful for them and the next day saw another mom on Facebook complaining about what a long wait they had at their own pediatrician’s office and it made me even MORE thankful.

Greg and I love iced coffee and Starbucks iced coffee, so when Greg found a deal on the Starbucks Iced Coffee K-Cups (60 count!!), we jumped on it. They are SO good. We got a sweetened and a vanilla sweetened. Yum!

#jonandmb // September 2015

Greg and I headed up to the Chicago suburbs this past weekend to celebrate the wedding of Mary Beth and Jon. MBK and I have been friends since we both pledged our sorority our freshman year at IU….way too long ago!

Greg worked on Friday night so we didn’t get to fly out until first thing Saturday morning. We were on a tight schedule since we were flying in on the same day as the wedding and were not thrilled to hear that we had to wait 45 minutes for our rental car that we had a reservation for at 10:30am. Once we were finally on the road, we made a pit stop to get some necessities for the day, including Greg’s favorite beer. Once we arrived at the hotel, we met up with some friends for a quick lunch before we had to get ready.

The wedding ceremony was at 2:30pm at the church and it was absolutely beautiful. The sun lit up the sanctuary and shined in perfectly on the happy couple. After the ceremony, we headed back to the hotel while the wedding party got their pictures taken.

Cocktails, dinner, and dancing started at 6:30pm.

The weather was absolutely amazing the entire time we were there. I was even cold in the evening, but obviously couldn’t complain. The reception was gorgeous (table 11 was obviously the best) and the band was so good. It was such a great party. Mary Beth was also serenaded by the men of Straight No Chaser (including her husband) which was a surprise to everyone and seriously awesome. I’m getting chills just typing it out now. What a great surprise to have at your wedding!

The next morning, we all met for breakfast at our hotel before we parted ways. I’m not sure if you can tell, but we had such a great time. It was a great night away for Greg and I; and to spend it with my girls was even better. It was such a beautiful celebration for Mary Beth and Jon and we couldn’t be happier for them.

Until next time Chicago…

friday morning marked my longest before-work run – 6 miles with heather! i’m not going to be making a habit of it, but it was nice to get it done before we left for the weekend.

Untitled

after a long day on friday, greg and i got up on saturday and headed to chicago! greg had been searching for this beer for weeks now and he finally tracked it down in illinois. we got the last two bottles in the store.

Untitled

meanwhile, the kids stayed back to hang out with my parents.

Untitled

they also got to see kenley’s soccer game!

the reason for our trip was to celebrate mary beth and jon’s wedding! i have many more pictures from the wedding to come later this week.

Friday I’m in Love

Happy Friday!

I have mentioned several times how much I adore my local chapter of the Moms RUN This Town running club. This group is such an encouraging group of women – moms and non-moms alike – and this week I was particularly thankful for my accountability partners as I have gotten out of bed at 4:30am to run before work, which is not easy to do. One exciting thing that has happened this week was that the national Moms RUN This Town introduced She RUNS This Town… two names, one amazing running club that encourages ALL women (moms and non-moms) to get out there and get running. I love it!

Ya’ll… we tried a new recipe this week: cauliflower pizza crust and it is simply amazing. I prepped and made the pizza crust the night before so it was ready to go when we got home from work. I still have some perfecting to do as it was a little soggy in the middle, but the flavor was delicious and it’s definitely a promising meal. I am already excited to give it another try and really fine tune the pizza. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed!

Isn’t this the most perfect tee? You can pre-order it through Brickyard Buffalo through this Sunday. I’ve already ordered mine!

greg and i went out on friday for a date night. after a wine tasting and dinner, we headed down to house of blues for a show. unfortunately, it turned into an earlier night than expected when we realized the set list had changed and we missed the band we wanted to see. it was a bummer, but we still had a great night.

Untitled

saturday morning came way too early and we were off to soccer. chris snapped this adorable picture of the girls. they both played great!

Untitled

greg had to stay home to tend to our broken a/c so c-man spent some time riding around on my back in the ergo.

Untitled

clearly, thrilled to be watching soccer instead of playing himself.

Untitled

after celebrating wyatt’s birthday and both kids not taking a nap, we headed to bj’s to get some shopping done and counted down the minutes until bedtime. as soon as the kids were in bed, greg and i did some swimming until the stormed rolled in and it started to downpour on us.

Untitled

this morning, i ran 10 miles with these lovely ladies. five of them were before the sun came up which made for an interesting run on the very dark trail. we may have screamed once or twice due to an armadillo and some frogs. we treated ourselves to a pumpkin spice latte afterwards.

meanwhile, crosby was eating cereal with his spoon like a boss.

and counting his cheerios.

Untitled

wyatt and kennedy came over to play today, which included a hilarious game of twister for toddlers.

we had an action-packed weekend. it was fun, but i am sure tired.

A post went viral on Facebook this week sharing a safety tip for iPhone users. In the case of emergency, anyone can see your emergency contact information as long as you update your information in the Health app on your phone. Make sure that you select the “show in lock screen” button so it can be accessed when your phone is locked. Not only is this great to have on your phone, but also great to know where to check on someone else’s phone if needed. See the original post here and a full article on this feature here.

I have jumped on the avocado toast bandwagon breakfast recently and found 11 Easy Ways to Fancy Up Your Avocado Toast. I love feta cheese, but only buy it when it is buy one, get one free (BOGO) at Publix. Lucky for me, that was this week, so I have been having toast with avocado, feta cheese, and a dash of salt & pepper for breakfast. YUM. I am excited to try some of the other recipes listed.

I asked Greg what he was loving this week and he said (1.) NFL football is back and (2.) the Mets, again. The Mets swept the Nationals this week in come-from-behind wins in all three games to all but punch their ticket to the post-season. Needless to say, it was tense, but there was a lot of celebrating happening in our house this week. The NFL officially kicked off last night and we are both very excited that football is back, even though Greg has already disowned the Redskins. Go Colts!

Have a great weekend!

my [long] weekend in photos

Untitled

friday night consisted of homework and baseball, all while breaking in my new socks.

Untitled

saturday, we hit up disney on ice to see 100 years of magic!

Untitled

it was magical. thanks to michelle, we had great tickets in a suite, so the kids were able to run around if they got antsy.

Untitled

c-man telling me which way he wants to go… “that way!”

Untitled

the rest of the day was spent like this… kenley was up a couple times on friday night but seemed to be doing better saturday morning. saturday afternoon, not so much. it was definitely an early bedtime for her. thankfully, sunday she woke up good as new!

Untitled

due to our lack of sleep on friday night, i postponed my 8-miler until sunday. this was my first solo run in a while so i waited until it was light out before heading out the door. i’m surprised how well i did all by my lonesome.

swimming with my people on sunday.

GOPR0352[1]

when kenley dives, she puts her hands over hear head so when you ask crosby to dive, this is what he does. then proceeds to jump in feet first.

she’s doing a great job diving for rings!

Untitled

this morning, i met heather at the y for some yoga. by the looks of this bunch, we needed a good yoga session.

the rest of our holiday was spent playing legos and getting stuff done around the house. we definitely enjoyed the extra day at home.

how as your long weekend?
