I don’t think I have mentioned this before, but I definitely cried when I saw the new Imagine the Possibilities Barbie commercial for the first time right before Christmas. I mean, so good. Related, this week, Barbie is getting a new look. So awesome.

27 Months

This little man is in full out two year old mode.

IMG_4433

We have had our fair share of time-outs this month, mostly due to throwing things that he shouldn’t be throwing, like toys or his dishes when he’s done with a meal. We have to remind him to use his walking feet and his listening ears. He also has been trying to get away with more and more, which I think is normal for this age. It’s crazy how much you forget about this age once you’ve been past it for two years now. Greg and I have to remind ourselves that we’ve already been through this once before, yet we are still surprised by each new thing.

IMG_4426

One exciting thing this month is that Crosby officially knows all of his colors! I asked about this at his 2 year checkup because I was concerned he may be colorblind because he was so inconsistent with his answers when asked about a color. Our doctor assured me that they wouldn’t be worried about that until after age 3. He was just doing it on his own time because all of a sudden, he knew all of them! He is also getting very good with his letters and can identify most of the alphabet. His vocabulary is continuing to expand every day.

27 Months

The transition to the toddler bed is still going… Some nights are good, then he will throw us a curve ball and continue to get out of his bed for a while. Once he is asleep, he sleeps soundly until after 6:30am each day, but it’s just the staying in bed at bedtime that is the challenge. We moved Kenley’s Good Nite Lite to his room, so hopefully the moon will start encouraging him to stay in his bed. In the mornings, he will run out of his room and ask Greg “Daddy, come look!” (at the sun) and then he will ask “is ok to wake up?”.

27 months notes:
Weight – He got weighed yesterday, but I’m not sure what it was. I am guessing around 30 pounds.
Hair – Light brown and in need of a haircut!
Teeth – 16, and who knows when those molars will get here.
Eyes – Brown
Clothes – 2T clothes, some 3T pajamas, and size 8 shoes
Diapers – Size 5 disposables
Likes – Choo choo trains, cars, car loaders, construction vehicles; watching the new garbage trucks pick up our garbage; playing with little Legos; food – all the food; Jake and the Neverland Pirates; talking about the (mu)seum and the big, big trains; helping himself to snacks in the pantry; calling any ball a “soccer ball”; peeing in the potty to get an M&M
Dislikes – Getting dressed each morning, staying in his bed at bedtime, using his fork and spoon, getting a time-out

greg worked on friday night so the kiddos and i held down the house. heather and i got up saturday morning to run and the weather was absolutely horrible. it was cold and so windy so our 8 miles turned into 6 and i was perfectly fine with that decision.

afterwards, we headed to o2b kids to celebrate kyler’s birthday, super hero style!

i headed to panera to get some work done when the kids went down for their nap and ended up meeting a friend for a chat and a quick trip to target. we ended the day with a very quick trip to the y and a broncos victory!

I am sure you all know how I feel about my running club, but I’ll say it again…I love it. There is a great article out right now on active.com on Why You Should Join A Women’s Running Club. The article features the founder of the national running club Moms Run This Town (MRTT) which I am a part of locally, but it really goes for any running club. If you’re considering joining one, I urge you to just give it a try!

My favorite thing this week was the fact that it was a four day week. Greg and I spent the entire day together on Monday and it was just what we needed. Who do I need to talk to about getting a three day weekend every weekend? Or, I would settle for just once a month!

saturday morning came early and we knocked out 12 miles, which is my longest training run to date. if i’m running anything close to 13.1 miles, i want to be getting a medal for it, however, heather suggested 12 and i agreed. it was hard and i moaned and groaned the rest of the day.

Friday I’m in Love

Happy Friday — the weekend is almost here!

Last night, I had the wonderful opportunity to get together with the other contributors of Orlando Moms Blog for such a fun night. I am dedicating my Friday I’m in Love post to gush on the amazing leaders, sponsors, and OMB team that made last night so much fun. I loved every minute of it.

The event was held at Bridle Oaks Barn in DeLand, Florida — my old stomping ground! It was absolutely gorgeous. Since I can’t get married there, I want to go to a wedding there. Or just host a party there. It’s so pretty.

Our entire team was there, so we mingled, drank Moscow Mules, ate a fabulous dinner, took a lot of pictures, and were showered with gifts from the most amazing sponsors. Most of the businesses are local to Orlando, some are national that are based out of Central Florida, and most of them are all run by moms themselves, which is awesome!

Space Coast Half Marathon {Race Recap}

Over Thanksgiving weekend, I ran the Space Coast Half Marathon in Cocoa. I had signed up for the race back in February since the half marathon sells out very quickly as it is a very popular race here in Florida. Since February, various things happened leaving me without a running partner for the race. I wasn’t all that thrilled about running alone, but I had heard such great things about the race, that I was still excited about that. Since the Lake Nona half marathon, I felt pretty unmotivated with my training, so I didn’t put a lot of effort into my runs in the four weeks between races.

I went over to Cocoa on Saturday with some other moms who were all running the full marathon. We hit up the expo, had an Italian dinner, and stayed the night in a hotel so we could be closer to the start of the race. 4:15am came very early the next morning and we all headed to the start of the race. The half marathon started at 6am and the full marathon started at 6:30am heading in the opposite direction.

Untitled

Untitled

I headed to the corral by myself since the other mamas had more time before the start of their race. I made my way into the crowd and lined up behind the 2:15 race pacer. I really didn’t have a goal in the race, but I had listened to a little bit of what the pacer was telling his group of runners and picked up some tips. I didn’t plan on staying with the pace group because I was planning to run intervals (run 5 minutes, walk 45 seconds), but I thought if I could see the group while I was running then I could probably beat my Tomoka time of 2:20.

Untitled

The race started out well and when I saw my first mile was closer to 11 minutes, I wasn’t upset since I heard what the pacer had just told his group about starting out slow. The water stops were pretty much every mile, so I got to the point where I would start skipping some my walks if I knew there was a water stop ahead. Around mile 4, I made a mental note to remember how peaceful and quiet it was. There were no spectators, no other runners were talking, the sun was starting to come up, and it was just so refreshing. As we continued, some of the local residents had food, beer, and liquor out for the runners, which was awesome. The course was out and back, so around mile 6, I started looking for other runners I knew on the course.

Once made it to the turnaround, I started looking for the 2:15 pacer and realized that I was further ahead of him than I thought. That gave me a huge boost and I made my way back still looking for other runners I knew. I figured that it was the same course on the way back so I could definitely keep my current pace. I kept skipping walks and taking them during the water stations. I was still feeling pretty good and completely flying on adrenaline. Around mile 12 (which is always the worst), I saw Katie. We chatted a bit and when I stopped to walk, she kept going. As I got closer and closer to the finish line, my speed kept increasing. Right as I was about to turn right to head into the shoot to finish the race, I saw Kristen who was passing the midway point of the full marathon. She gave me a high five and said “great time!!”.

Untitled

I busted it out and finished in 2:14:14 which was a six minute PR and ten whole minutes faster than the Lake Nona half marathon. I was seriously in shock. I grabbed some water and made my way through the crowds. I didn’t have anyone waiting for me at the finish line and I wasn’t running with anyone, so I was just aimlessly walking / hobbling around on cloud nine. I finally ran into Katie again who gave me a huge hug. She ended up finishing a minute or two behind me when I thought for sure she was still ahead of me. I must have been in the zone because I didn’t even notice passing her in the last half mile.

Untitled

Katie and I took some pics and I saw a few other moms that I chatted with. The after-party was really great, but after my pizza and beer, I headed home to Orlando. I needed to see my people who I hadn’t since the day before.

Untitled

I was still looking back at my splits this week as we are gearing up for our next race at the end of the month. I am still a little bit in shock that I pulled off a sub-2:15 half marathon in 2015, which was a very, very distant goal in my mind. Overall, the weather was good, though on the hotter side, the course was very flat and very fast, and I think all of the stars aligned (no pun intended) for me to have such a great race that day.

I’ll definitely be back for Space Coast 2016…and hopefully 2017 so I can earn my three year Milky Way medal!

greg took the kids to the park on friday after school and apparently kenley has mad monkey bars skills. neither greg, nor i had seen this before and she claims they have no monkey bars at school, so i am not sure where it came from. but, it’s awesome!

Untitled

saturday morning, i rocked ten miles these these lovely ladies and this gentleman. it was nice and cool and a great start to the day.

Untitled

later in the day after our errands were over, we headed down to sea world for a couple of hours. we got to visit the penguins right before the park closed, which was super fun.

Untitled

we stocked up on a lot of food this weekend and did a lot of meal prepping for the week including breakfast, lunch, and dinner. i don’t think our fridge has looked this full in months. it feels great to get so much done in advance!

Untitled

later in the day, we had some friends over for dinner. the kids had such a great time running around and playing.

these two had a great weekend.

Happy Friday and happy 2016!

You all have heard me talk about my Simplified Planner or the app, but I am back with another awesome Emily Ley idea. Right now, she is hosting a simplicity challenge on Instagram. 30 days to simplify your life. There is still time to catch up, head over to her Instagram page to see the tasks. Each are super easy and I feel so accomplished after each one. It’s a great way to start 2016!

As is everyone else in America, we are currently obsessing over Making a Murderer. We are six episodes in, so no spoilers please. Related: we’ve finally joined the rest of society and logged into Netflix, thanks to Michael.

We have also been all about the podcasts this week. We finally started listening to the Sugar Crash Kids podcast in the morning on the way to school and we LOVE it. Kenley asks for it every day. A couple sweet friends had shared about it last year, but I just hadn’t gotten around to listening yet. We were missing out. It’s so great! You should definitely subscribe to it on iTunes. You won’t be disappointed. I also have been catching up on Serial on my way home from work. I’m still undecided on whether it is better than season one or not, but I am definitely hooked.

It’s finally “winter” here in Florida! We’ve had temps in the 50s and 60s this week which has allowed us to break out our boots and puffy vests. Hopefully it stays a while, but who knows!

During Christmas, I was introduced to the Turbie Twist by my family. As soon as we got back to Florida, my mom and I were shopping and I had to pick it up. I love the microfiber towels and I’ve shared before the DevaCurl towel that I had used, but the Turbie Twist is FAR better. I love it! I got mine at Bed, Bath, and Beyond, but they are also on Amazon and at a couple other retailers.
