we spent most of the day on saturday outside. it was so gorgeous.

we had a great weekend with some amazing weather, but it seems like the weekend flew by!
happy leap day!

28 Months

The months keep flying by and C man is getting further into the trying twos. We are working on following directions and having good listening ears, but sometimes it is a challenge. He knows how to test his limits and likes to see how far he can get…which usually gets him a timeout.

Crosby is a funny little nugget. Any noise that he hears in the house he asks “what’s that?” then follows it up with “maybe….it’s a bus?!” or “maybe…it’s a train?!” He loves to wrestle with daddy and play “get me” which is basically just wanting someone to chase him. Kenley has called this “get me” for years, so I think it’s sticking. Like Kenley, he is fast! He still loves to climb everything, even the things he’s not supposed to, and he also loves to jump off of said things. He’s a little daredevil. He has been practicing with his balance bike and is getting pretty good at it. He really likes riding it, but in short increments.

Untitled

To say he loves cars is an understatement. I have been trying to take as many pictures of his “signature position” as possible because I’m not sure how long it will last. Since the beginning of his car obsession, he has laid on the floor like this with his arm out. He’s completely oblivious to the world around him in these moments, focusing on rolling the cars (or any vehicle) back and forth.

28 Months

Crosby is a great eater. He has been doing very well with his utensils, though he needs reminded to actually use them from time to time. He loves quesadillas, chicken nuggets, pears, grapes, cuties, pancakes, waffles, crackers, cheeseburgers, green beans, black beans, cheese, and he loves to dip it all in ranch. I’m only half kidding, he will dip anything in ranch if you let him. He loves the yogurt ranch, but doesn’t discriminate against the regular ranch if it’s the only option. There isn’t much he doesn’t like, but he still isn’t a fan of bananas and he doesn’t really like peanut butter either. I think both of these things will grow on him in time.

IMG_4460

Our biggest struggle right now is bedtime. Crosby will have a few good nights in a row, maybe even a week, but he regresses big time when he gets sick. Unfortunately, for the last couple of months, he’s had a fever every couple of weeks. It feels like we are starting over with the bedtime shenanigans each time this happens. Case in point, he was at the doctor on Tuesday this week with a fever and fluid in his ear. Since then, he has been super emotional and clingy at bedtime. Today he completely boycotted his nap and chose to read books in his bed the whole time, so he went to bed fairly easily tonight. It’s definitely a work in progress. Once we tackle this, it’s on to the next big task…potty training…which I am sure will negate any progress we have made at bedtime. You can see why I am in no rush to get that started.

28 months notes:
Weight – 33 pounds, thanks to our monthly doctor visits
Hair – Light brown and in need of a haircut!
Teeth – 16, and who knows when those molars will get here.
Eyes – Brown
Clothes – 2T clothes, some 3T pajamas, and size 8 shoes
Diapers – Size 5 disposables during the day, size 6 at night
Likes – Climbing; running, jumping; riding his balance bike; cars, etc.; Jake & the Neverland Pirates; Mickey Mouse Clubhouse; reading lots and lots of books; boycotting naps; getting an M&M for going to the potty; going to Touch-a-Truck; giving hugs; cuddling; push toys; the water table
Dislikes – Getting dressed each morning; staying in his bed at bedtime; taking medicine; getting timeouts

While I was at a conference for work last week, the campaign Five for the Fight was launched. You can see the video here. It’s simple…your $5 donation will go directly to cancer research at the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Utah. Once you donate your $5, spread the word and get five friends to donate $5 too. We need this research…for people like Charlotte and Joey and so many others.

This week, I am loving our YMCA membership. I really have been loving it for the past year, so I’m not sure why I haven’t mentioned it before now. I have been three times this week and the kids love when we go on the weekends. It’s so convenient and I really love the little community that we have developed there. It’s the little things.

Sheryl Sandberg posted this powerful video on Facebook yesterday of a commercial that is encouraging dads to #ShareTheLoad. It’s amazing how a simple message of a laundry detergent commercial can speak volumes to the changing times and stereotyping gender roles. Really awesome stuff, check it out.

Growing up, spirit weeks were always my favorite weeks in high school. It always meant something fun was happening, like homecoming week or basketball sectional. I have a lot of good memories associated with dress up days at school. This week the kids’ school had spirit week! They had crazy hair day, favorite team day, pajama day & fancy dress day, crazy sock day, and favorite color day. This also meant that they didn’t have to wear their uniforms, which was a nice break for them. I posted some pictures of them on Instagram from the first part of the week, then slacked off yesterday and today. Today they are donning their red and pink for Valentine’s Day!

Speaking of Instagram, you are now able to switch accounts without signing out… every person in America who owns a small business or works in marketing & PR is now rejoicing. Being the techie nerd that I am, I am thrilled about this. I have already signed in to our office account and have toggled between the two accounts with ease. It’s the little things, right?

Greg and I got out of the house on Wednesday night and headed down to the Magic game at Amway. We had great seats which included our dinner & drinks! The Magic lost to the Spurs, but it was a really close game. Though we didn’t pay a ton of attention to the game, it was great spending time with each other and talking without interruptions. It was a fun night!

Happy Valentine’s Day weekend!

Celebration Half Marathon {Race Recap}

Part two of my double race weekend was on Sunday with the Celebration Half Marathon! I also ran this race last year and absolutely fell in love with it so I knew I wanted to do it in 2016. [Again] I was stressing out about what to wear since it was supposed to be chilly at the start. I decided to stick with shorts, but kept my fleece pants on right up until the race started and I put everything in bag check. This ended up being such a great idea that I may have to use in the future. I stayed nice and toasty until it was time to run.

Untitled

Heather and I headed down to Celebration around 5:15am with the hopes of finding a good parking spot, but we ended up having to walk a little bit to get to the downtown area. We met up with the other MRTT moms at the Grand Bohemian Hotel right across the lake from the start line. We took some pictures and made our way over to get ready to start the race.

Untitled

The race started and we were on our way. We planned to stick with our 5 minute/45 second intervals since that is what we had been running for the last couple of months. As soon as we got onto the course, I immediately recognized everything and knew what to expect coming up. We ran through the beautiful neighborhoods, on the boardwalks, and around the lakes. In hindsight, we probably started out a little too fast considering we didn’t do much talking, but we were holding a very good pace for the first ten miles or so. We walked through all of the water stops and most of them were timed perfectly with our 45 second walk breaks. Around mile 7, I had an orange slice and it tasted so good that I probably could have eaten 20 of them, but it made me realize how hungry I really was. I didn’t eat nearly enough breakfast so by the end of the race I was starving and couldn’t even think about putting more water into my empty stomach. Lesson learned.

Celebration Half

Celebration Half

A little bit after mile 10, Heather started to hit the wall. I’d been there before, I knew exactly how she was feeling. I kept encouraging her to keep moving forward until the end of the race, knowing very well that she probably wanted to punch me in the face, but I figured that was the risk I’d take. I had warned her that the very last part of the race was horrible since we come off the boardwalk and see the finish line, but it is on the opposite side of the lake from where we were. We were so close, yet so far! We crossed the finish line at 2:19:44 which was a PR for Heather and another sub 2:20 race for me!

Untitled

Untitled

She couldn’t help but be a little disappointed in our finish time because she wanted to both of us to get a PR, but I wasn’t disappointed at all. We did great, but also have room for improvement, and I am happy with that!

Official results & pace:

1659 — Kendra Gilbertson — 31 — Orlando — FL — 2:19:44 — 10:40

Finally, it was time for the best part — the after party! We enjoyed great food from all of the restaurants in Celebration, and of course, enjoyed our hard-earned free beers! Greg and the kids came down as well, so I saw them as soon as we crossed the finish line, which always makes a race so much better!

Until next year, Celebration!

Lady Track Shack 5K {Race Recap}

This past weekend marked my first double race weekend. I use the term “race” loosely for the 5K since I didn’t go out there with a true race mentality, knowing that I had a half marathon the next day. However, I didn’t want to miss this race for 2016 because it is one of my favorites. As you may have guessed, this race is only for women and proceeds go to help fund mammograms — awesome! I ran this race last year by myself and got a PR, so this race holds a special place in my heart. This was also Heather’s first MRTT meet up last year…if only we had known each other then!

This year, there was a new location where we had to park in the parking garage, but it allowed us to get a glimpse of the beautiful sunrise. It was pretty cool before the race started, but I warmed up pretty quickly.

Untitled

Untitled

The course was pretty crowded for the first mile, so it took a while to get into a groove. Even though it was only a 5K, I felt like we were running forever. It could have been because I was battling bronchitis and an upper respiratory infection during the week which left me with zero weekday runs. In turn, I was starting to get pretty nervous for the half marathon the next day.

We finished the race, walked through the vendor tents, and got our free food. It was a gorgeous morning! Instead of the tutu, like we got last year, we got an inspirational bracelet from Momentum Jewelry. Heather’s says “Live Joyfully” and mine says “dream big”, and we both thought they were perfect for us. We also got a sweet Raw Threads shirt and a cute medal…just a couple more reasons why this race is the jam!

Overall, it was a great warm up run for our race on Sunday!
