29 Months

This month Crosby started back up with swim lessons with Heidi. He has been at it for two weeks now and has picked up right where he left off. Last week, Kenley got in the pool with him and showed Heidi how she could dive off the sun shelf. Crosby proceeded to follow the lead and dove right in himself. I think it was just a preview of what’s to come this summer.

He also is into repeating everything you say with the same tone of voice, such as “oh my gosh!” and “the answer is no.” He will just sit and intently watch Kenley while she is telling a story (like the leprechaun story), then repeat the story like it happened to him.

IMG_4479

While he is quite hysterical most of the time, this month has also been a little bit of a challenge. We’ve received some less than stellar reports from his teacher about his behavior at school, mostly stemming from not wearing his listening ears. He also loves the word “no” right now and needs reminders to use nice words and nice hands. I think the “trying twos” are in full effect over here.

29 Months

I am happy to report that bedtime has been slowly getting better. We spent a few nights at Disney this week and Crosby and I slept in the same bed for the first time ever. Boy does he move around a lot at night! Several times I had to move him back to his own pillow because either his head or his feet were in my back. The kids enjoyed sleeping in our beds, but I think they were happy to be back in their own beds tonight. Crosby likes to sleep with his lovies, animals, Mickey, boat pillow, whatever the chosen item is that night. It may be a phase, but it’s pretty different than Kenley who rarely sleeps with anything in her bed.

We haven’t attempted potty training boot camp yet but that is the next item on our agenda. He had been sharing Kenley’s bathroom for teeth brushing and taking baths so the little potty has always resided in there. This week, he got his own step stool and we moved all of his stuff to the pool bathroom which will be his very own. The potty, toothbrush, toothpaste, and cup all got moved with the hopes that he will be excited to have his very own bathroom now! Once we start potty training, he won’t be able to go into Kenley’s room to use her bathroom, especially in the middle of the night, so hopefully claiming ownership of his own bathroom will make him more excited to use the potty.

29 months notes:
Weight – Probably around 33-34 pounds
Hair – Light brown and just got a haircut this week!
Teeth – 16, but I definitely think at least one molar is coming in.
Eyes – Brown
Clothes – 2T clothes, some 3T pajamas, and size 8 shoes
Diapers – Size 5 disposables during the day, size 6 at night
Likes – Saying “no”, but also saying “thank you”; cuddling; sharing; animals; not listening; swimming; Mickey Mouse; eating; riding his balance bike; helping himself to the crackers; running everywhere; playing with trucks, cars, trains, planes.
Dislikes – Getting his monthly picture taken (see above) which usually ends with Daddy trying to make him laugh and M&M bribes; getting his diaper changed; getting time outs; seeing Mommy or Daddy upset with him.

Happy Friday!

It’s spring break week! The kids have been out of school all week, my parents have been here, and Greg and I have been living it up. Each year we look forward to this little break from making lunches and rushing out the door in the mornings. Greg and I stopped by Starbucks on the wait to work twice and we ate lunch out every day. It’s always nice to break up our normal routine a little bit.

I have really wanted to make brussels sprouts for a while but never really got the courage to do them. Knowing that my mom would be here this week, I picked up a bag at Aldi last week to make. I used this recipe and also made garlic aioli to go with them and oh my goodness… they were so good!! Everyone loved them and we will definitely be making them on a regular basis.

As part of our pre-vacation ritual, my mom and I got a pedicure this week. We decided to take Kenley for her first pedi ever! She was very reluctant at first and only wanted me to paint her nails, which I obviously couldn’t do as I was sitting in my chair getting my feet massaged. She finally gave in and got her toes done with the cutest little flower, then decided that she was going to take it upon herself to get a manicure too. She was so happy that she did it!

This is no surprise but it’s MARCH MADNESS time!! It’s the most wonderful time of the year!! We went out to lunch yesterday to watch the start of the games, but unfortunately we didn’t pick back up until the IU game last night. Not only did IU win, but our friends were on TV with their sweet baby girl! The cutest little Hoosier fan ever!

Our little leprechauns celebrated St. Patrick’s Day at school on Thursday with no school uniforms and their comfy green clothes. At dinner, Kenley went on and on about the leprechaun came into their room during nap time and made a big, big mess! He took blankets off four of her friends (she also provided the names) and took all of the backpacks off the hooks. He also flipped over “just one table” near the kitchen. It was the best story and I really wish I would have gotten it all on video. She was so amped up it!

I voted on Tuesday and it was awesome. To be honest, it had been a while since I actually visited the polls due to getting absentee ballots the last few elections, so it was pretty exciting!

I just downloaded the Think Dirty app last night and I have been scanning items in our house like crazy… Has anyone else used this yet? What do you think?

Best Damn Race 10k {Race Recap}

Race season continues! Two weekends ago, I ran the Best Damn Race 10K for the second year in a row. This year, I was more excited for the sole reason that I actually had someone to run with and I had several friends that were going to be there. There was a very large group from the running group running one of the three races offered that day. I knew it was going to be a fun time.

Untitled

Untitled

The race started and we were underway. Heather and I had a goal to run the race under one hour and PR. It was chilly at the start of the race, but I later regretted wearing a long sleeve shirt. It warmed up quickly and I was definitely sweating by the end of the race. We did a good job of pacing ourselves and each of our miles were pretty consistent. I was even surprised by a few of them when I saw we were going faster than it felt like we were going. Once we hit mile 5, I knew we had to finish in the next 12 minutes in order be under an hour, which I knew we could do. I casually mentioned this to Heather and it turns out she was already having a little bit of anxiety about the finish (oops!). Around mile 5 and a half, I inched ahead of her and she gave me the wave to keep going. At mile 6, we turn the corner to finish the race, but the finish line is at the other end of the road. It is the longest .2 miles of my life! The street is lined with runners who have already finished, as well as fans cheering everyone on. It is exciting, but also stressful. I could see the giant clock at the finish line and knew I was going to PR.

Untitled

I finished the race with an official time 58:51 which was over a minute faster than last year! Before grabbing my medal, I turned around to see Heather finish. Not long after we got our medal, we saw Kayla walking up! She finished a lot sooner than she thought she was going to so I was happily surprised to see her!

We ran the whole race without stopping, which is affirming our decision to no longer run intervals. My watch congratulated me on my fastest 10K and we were off to celebrate!

Untitled

The after party was great, complete with free beer and Absolute vodka – hello Bloody Mary! We also devoured rice, beans, and chicken from Pollo Tropical. It was all delicious and so much fun seeing all of the running mamas out there. Thank you BDR for a great race, even though I still am not a huge fan of the 10K distance.

Friday I’m in Love

It’s Friday already? Thank goodness. This has been a crazy, busy week and it’s only going to get worse this month. But, spring is right around the corner and we are definitely looking forward to it!

o n e

Monday was Leap Day! I woke up thinking about how I was going to dominate my extra day of the year, but it turns out it was just like any other day. I dropped the kids off, went to work, went to class, and ate dinner at 9pm. It was still fun to think about how we had an entire full day this year that we didn’t have last year! Greg actually had jury duty on Leap Day this week. Which leads me into number two…

t w o

Not only did he have jury duty, he was selected to be on the jury for a week…long…trial. Aside from missing work, he has really enjoyed this whole experience. However, we are hoping that it will be over today. The only downside is that it has created longer days for all of us since we were both battling different traffic during rush hour and not getting home until later than usual most nights. But, it is what it is and like I said, he’s actually enjoying the whole process. I think it helps that all we watch are lawyer shows, like Suits and HTGAWM. Ha!

t h r e e

We had girls’ night this week at Cooper’s Hawk. I had a happy heart after dinner and drinks with these amazing ladies.

Joy Cho is at it again with another one of her Target collections. She had already released her new home and nursery line and this weekend her layette collection for babies will be available. I mean, give me all the babies. I want to buy every single piece! Better yet, can she make them in toddler sizes? So adorable!
