after an uneventful friday night, i started my saturday morning with my first trail run!

Untitled

we were a little nervous and probably a little too ambitious since we thought we were going to do five miles, but we happily ended at 3.3 since it was super hot and humid. overall, it was a great time and we ended up having a huge group, which made it even better!

Friday I’m in Love

Happy Friday! I have two weeks of loves to share since I inadvertently skipped last week. My apologies!

Kenley had her first field trip last week and I was lucky enough to get to go with the class! We went to the SEA LIFE Aquarium on I-Drive and it was super fun. I think the highlight of the trip for the kids was riding the big, fancy bus where they got to watch cartoons on the ride to and from, but the aquarium was really cool too. It was our first time there, but it is actually included in our Legoland passes we just got, so we will definitely be back. It’s also right under the Orlando Eye so it was cool to see that up close and personal too. Overall, it was a super fun morning with her preschool class.

We tried a new recipe this week that I had pinned a while ago — Sweet Potato Noodle and Kale Casserole. I am not sure what took me so long to make it, but I had two sweet potatoes on the counter so it went on the menu for Monday. Greg was apprehensive because the word “kale” was in it, but we both loved it!! You could barely taste the kale, for the record. I was even pleasantly surprised with how good it was. The kids had some of it, but weren’t in love with it like we were, and that’s ok. It’ll be back on the menu soon enough. Speaking of, I’m over at Orlando Moms Blog this week sharing about how much I love meal planning! Check it out.

Thanks to not taking courses right now and not teaching quite yet, I have ample time in the evenings to catch up on what’s on TV. In the last week, I have watched about ten episodes of Grey’s Anatomy and I’m only three episodes away from being caught up. Shew, that is not an easy show to binge watch, my emotions can’t handle it! We also caught the first episode of the new season of Wayward Pines! I know that I’ve mentioned this show before and it was supposed to only be one season, but much to our surprise, it’s back! Yay!

My new Simplified Planner has arrived and I’ve already started filling in the pristine white pages. This is my fourth Simplified Planner and I switched it up for this coming year. For the past year, I have been using the daily, academic planner, which I love, but the smaller, weekly planner looked too pretty to pass up. I am excited to have something new to try! Yes, I realize my level of excitement over a planner may be a little much, but it really helps me stay as organized as possible.

Untitled

after an uneventful friday night, we were up and out the door for an 8:15am soccer game on saturday morning.

Untitled

crosby loved watching his sister play, ha!

Untitled

it was a great season! we had such a good time and kenley ended the season playing so well. we are already looking forward to playing in the fall again!

Untitled

after soccer and the y, the kids played in the water table until it was time for lunch.

Untitled

after nap, we took the kids to see sugarcrash kids and the forgotten island, as part of the orlando fringe festival. the show was super cute and kenley was really into it. unfortunately, parking was terrible, so greg missed the show, but enjoyed watching the mets game in the car instead.

Untitled

dinner at 4 rivers!

Untitled

after church, we were on a mission to find a new park, and we did just that.

Untitled

Untitled

our friday night consisted of reading and the mets game. thrilling, i know.

Untitled

the little monsters had a great game on saturday! kenley played the best she has all season.

Untitled

after the y, we headed to target and chic-fil-a for lunch. if you could have seen us at target…it was quickly approaching lunchtime, so in order to avoid meltdowns, we were literally throwing things into the limo cart as we went through each aisle. it wasn’t really my idea of a fun trip to target, but we came out with more than we needed.

Untitled

greg and i got a lot done around the house during nap time, which meant we got to play in the pool in the afternoon!

crosby is a little fish!

Untitled

unfortunately, our double date plans were postponed, so greg and i had a sitter and absolutely no plans. we ended up at ikea, then to rocco’s tacos for dinner!

Untitled

it was a great night out and we were home and in bed by 10pm.

Untitled

this morning, heather and i got in six miles before 7am.

after naps, we headed down to skyzone to jump with some of the other orlando moms blog families.

Untitled

afterwards, we explored artegon marketplace. it was so cool!

Untitled

the kids took a little break from browsing the shops to play legos. we will definitely be back!

we had a packed weekend, but it was so fun! needless to say, we were all exhausted tonight.

Friday I’m in Love

Happy Friday the 13th!

We started the week sporting our LOVE * PEACE * CHARLOTTE REECE shirts! We said a lot of prayers and lifted up praise for this sweet girl as she had successful surgery on Tuesday. Please follow along and continue to pray for her as she continues this fight!

I am positive that everyone else in the world is loving JT and his new song “Can’t Stop The Feeling”. It has been in my head all week!

I was so excited when I read Amazon launches one, two-hour shipping in Orlando through Amazon Now (for Amazon Prime customers). However, once I went in to find our zip code, I was severely disappointed that our zip code is not included yet. Wah. Greg said because traffic is so terrible, which is honestly probably the truth. Hopefully soon though!

This is a wonderful read: How “Mean” Parents Raise Grateful Kids: 5 Things to STOP Doing”. I agree with the author, this is a long and hard process (and we’ve only been working on this for a short number of years), but thankfully I had “mean” parents to lead the way.

Friday I'm in Love Linky Party

Head on over and see what the others are loving this week!

Our Favorites // Feeding

I have shared some of these items on our previous must have lists, but I wanted to do a full roundup of our favorite feeding items. We have retired most of these items since we have moved out of the baby stage, but they will still go down as some of our favorites.

Thankfully we didn’t have to do a lot of shopping around for bottles since both of the kids took to Tommee Tippie bottles immediately. They were very easy to clean and there were no issues with the kids going from breast to bottle and vice versa. The Tommee Tippie sippy cups were good, however, not as easy to clean. They did the job for Kenley, but for Crosby, I was introduced to the Nuby No-Spill Sprout sippy cups and they were by far the best. They were easy to clean, didn’t leak, and Crosby really liked them. Once the kids transitioned to straw cups, we found the Thermos Foogo insulated straw cups and then the slightly larger Thermos Funtainer straw bottles. I cannot stand when cups sweat, so these have been my favorite so far. Since they are both insulated, they keep the water and ice cold for much longer. Another bonus is that they don’t leak! I foresee us using the Thermos brand for a while.

When Kenley was born, there was only the Boon Grass drying rack which was perfect. Later, the larger Boon Lawn came out and once we added another child, we added another drying rack. I love the modern, nontraditional look to these drying racks. They are cute, as well as functional. There are also cute accessories such as the Boon Twig that are great for hanging pacifiers and bottle nipples to dry. We now only use the lawn and it is great for both the kids’ cups, as well as wine glasses. The only bottle brush we’ve used is the OXO Tot Bottle Brush and it is great. Again, still useful for cups and wine glasses even though we haven’t used baby bottles in quite a while.

Feeding Favorites

We registered for the Fisher-Price Spacesaver High Chair due to the lack of space in our kitchen area of our first house. The high chair sat directly on one of our chairs at the kitchen table and it did just that, saved space. We had the option to slide the chair around the kitchen as needed, but most of the time we all sat at the kitchen table for meals. It worked out perfectly. You can also buy different covers, so it it was nice to have a back up when one was in the wash. Once the kids grew out of the high chair, they moved into the OXO Tot Perch booster seat. Both of the kids have their own now and I love them because they aren’t bulky and they are easy to move.

When we first started solid food, the Munckin soft-tip spoons were by far the best. They are cheap, soft, and easy to clean. For plates, we loved using the OXO Tot Plate and Divided Plate. These are really good quality and the rubber bottoms were great for the younger years. We have since transitioned into the Re-play Recycled set, including the flat plates, divided plates, bowls, sippy cups, tumblers, utensils, and snack stacks. I could go on and on about how much we love this brand. They are very durable and there are so many fun colors. This is the only brand we use for meal time.

At school and on the go, there are a few items that we couldn’t live without. The OXO Tot large and small bowls have been in the rotation for years. They are great for sending snacks to school, such as fruit. They are also very durable as we’ve had our current set for well over three years now. Another item that we didn’t learn about until Crosby was born was the Dr. Brown’s Snack-A-Pillar cups. These were so useful when we were sending smaller snacks to school in the infant room because we could just stack them all together. We still use them, but they are pretty small now that the kids are bigger. Finally, we use the Bentgo lunch boxes for the kids. They are perfect for packing bento style lunches with a lot of variety. We use it every single day and they do not leak! They are well worth the money if you pack lunches regularly.

There you have it! Our feeding time favorites!

Happy Friday and happy May!

I submitted my two final papers and gave my pecha kucha on Monday night concluding my spring semester! It feels damn good to be done. I know have some extra time to devote to publishing a few more blog posts and doing some projects around the house, which I am looking forward to!

When Crosby was in the ER, an awesome staff member introduced us to the Lego Juniors Create & Cruise app. We love Legos in this house and this app is now a fan favorite. Crosby has mastered how to build and drive all of the cars and he loves it! Download it, it’s a good one!

A sweet friend sent this video to me this week. I didn’t watch it at first because I was not in the mood to cry, but I did eventually watch it, and I did cry, but how beautiful!
