34 Months

C-man is just two short months away from turning three! I will spare you all the reasons how this is entirely not possible, but we’re almost there.

The big news this month is that Crosby started preschool! I was a little surprised that he moved up this year since Kenley did two years in the toddler hall and just moved to preschool last year. Crosby will do two years of preschool before starting VPK. I am already thrilled that he moved up as he is doing so well in his new classroom. It’s also fun that he and Kenley are in the same morning care room together now since he’s in the preschool hall. He’s been so excited about school, each morning we get to school he asks someone different if they like his new backpack, which is actually not new since he had the same one last year.

It’s really funny how opposite Kenley and Crosby are in many aspects. Kenley is such a morning person and hops right out of bed when her green light comes on. Crosby is the complete opposite. During the week of Gilbo Camp when the kids didn’t have school, he slept until 7:15-7:30 am almost every day. That may not seem late, but we are in the car by that time on a normal school day. He would even wake up, see his sun was on, and roll over to put his covers back on. I kept telling him that he was in for a rude awakening once school started and he sure was. He does not like to be woken up and he is not a morning person whatsoever. Kenley is just like her daddy and Crosby is just like his mommy.

Overall, he’s a great sleeper. He’s doing a much better job at bedtime and does get out of his bed a couple of times to “go potty” or see what we’re doing. Most nights he’s in bed for good by 8:00 pm. He’s been doing a great job of staying dry all night and has been accident free for a while. We take him to potty when we go to bed between 10-10:30 pm and he doesn’t mind at all. Most nights he’s barely even awake.

Crosby is getting so old and becoming such a little boy. He is such a lover and a cuddler. His teacher mentioned how cuddly he was after just the first day. He loves babies and loves on them so sweetly each time he sees one. He’s such a sweetheart. He also loves his sister. He hangs on every word she says and repeats everything that comes out of her mouth, which is not always a good thing.

34 months notes:
Weight – 34 pounds according to the scale at the Y
Hair – Blondish brownish
Teeth – A full set of 20
Eyes – Brown
Clothes – A good mix of 2T and 3T clothes and pajamas; size 9 shoes
Diapers – Size 2T/3T undies
Likes – Trucks, Legos, trains, construction vehicles, anything that Kenley has or doesn’t want him to have, climbing the wall in the house, jumping on the trampoline, swimming, most foods, Daddy’s ship Legos, reading, coloring, running, playing at the park, listening to Disney Junior songs, brushing his teeth, wearing his backpack, pretending he is a dog, or a baby, not listening (some of the time), popsicles
Dislikes – Waking up early, getting into trouble

We are really looking forward to a fun October and celebrating this guy’s third birthday!

Potty Training Essentials

I shared some thoughts on potty training this week over on Orlando Moms Blog, so I thought I would also share some of the essential items that help with the potty training process.

Potty Training Essentials

The Baby Bjorn smart potty and step stool are a must. Both of the kids preferred the small potty over sitting on the big potty at first. This potty is simple and has zero frills but does the job. The step stool is necessary for all of the hand washes after the potty. Both of the kids still use their step stool every night to brush their teeth.

Just as important as the potty itself are the rewards. We used M&M’s for both of our kids, as well as Dum Dum lollipops. I’ve heard of many different types of treats, small toys, stickers, the whole nine yards. Whatever you use, definitely offer rewards and incentives!

I was very particular about the kids’ undies because one brand fit each of them far better than the others. For Kenley, we really like the Carter’s cotton undies. They are super cute, comfy, and fit her well. For Crosby, we like the Old Navy boxer briefs. They fit him really well and I cannot even get over the cuteness.

We swear by the Kandoo flushable wipes and the Up & Up flushable wipes. These make potty time so much better than normal dry toilet paper. Some reviews have said that the flushable wipes can cause clogs, but we haven’t experienced that and use them sparingly. These are also great to stuff in the diaper bag and go!

For Kenley, we used a folding travel potty seat with handles for those lovely trips to public restrooms. She was a little apprehensive of the large, loud potties and I didn’t even want to think about how disgusting those potties really were. The seat was great to stick in the diaper bag and use it as needed on the go.

We already had a Planet Wise wet bag from our cloth diapering days, but these are great to have on hand in case of accidents. I usually stick a clean change of clothes in there to take with us when we leave the house and then use it for the soiled clothes, if needed.

I am happy to be done with the potty training phase but these items were especially helpful during the whole process. What have you used that is not on my list?

Legoland Water Park // August 2016

Last weekend, we finally went to the Legoland Water Park! We have been to the park several times, but this time we went to go to the water park itself. We did do a few rides before the water park opened, but the rest of time was spent splashing in the water.

Kenley rode all of the slides that she could, but she wasn’t a fan of the tunnel slide since it was pitch black the whole ride. She spent majority of the time at the Joker Soaker, which had a lot of different slides in that one area.

Untitled

Greg and I both rode one of the tall water slides. I chose the tunnel slide because it had a less steep incline, but I’ll definitely try the other two next time. I’m not going to lie, they are really tall and I was nervous to go down them, which is completely silly since the height minimum is 48″!

Crosby liked the water slides even though he wasn’t tall enough for some of them, but he really didn’t like water coming straight down on his head so he wouldn’t even go near the slides that had waterfall type features. He really liked playing with the jumbo Legos in the wave pool.

My favorite was the lazy river. I could have stayed there all day. The kids had fun collecting the jumbo Legos and building them on our rafts.

We ended up staying for about two hours before the storms rolled in and we decided to call it a day. We did the lazy river just one more time before we changed into dry clothes, which ended up coming back to bite us since we had to run to the car in the rain and ended up with wet clothes again.

Hopefully we’ll be back to the water park before it closes for the season. If not, definitely again in the spring.

so long summer 2016

Just like that, August arrived, summer camp came to an end and Camp Gilbo began. The kids were out of school and home for ten eleven straight days. We did our best to keep busy and overall the week went well…but it was still very exhausting.

On Monday, we started the week of watching the Olympics!

Untitled

We also went the Orlando Science Center in the afternoon, which worked out well since it turned out to be a rainy day…and also a rainy week.

Untitled

Untitled

Aside from many trips to the YMCA, we also hit up several parks in the area. Greg took them to the “yellow and blue” park twice, they went to our normal park twice, and I took them to a new park after we went to Baby Bootcamp on Wednesday. These kids live for parks.

The kids had Meet the Teacher on Thursday so we went out to dinner with some friends afterwards. We are super excited about the kids’ teachers and classes this year. Kenley is excited to be back in the same class with some old friends.

On Sunday, we played at the Grand Floridian with some friends who were in from New York.

We had a busy week and it was hard determining what day it was at any given point.

Untitled

The kids headed back to school on Monday, but it was short lived. They were home by 11:00am due to no air conditioning at the school, a true state of emergency in Florida. Day one, take two, was a success on Tuesday!

here’s to a new year!

4th of July weekend, continued.

I shared last month about our trip to Indiana over 4th of July weekend. Since then, I’ve finally gone through the pictures on my camera, so I wanted to be sure to post those too.

Maggi and Greg hosted the Lower clan for a fantastic brunch on Saturday. It was cooler than normal that weekend, but the kiddos still took advantage of the pool and water balloons. Kenley was so excited to see that Sami had the same swim suit as she did!
