Christmas {2016}

Merry Christmas! We have been having so much fun this week and I have so many pictures to share of all of our adventures with all of our visitors.

Before Christmas, we had our friends in town for a few days to play as they were on their way down to south Florida. I had to work until Friday, but Greg and the kids had a great time. They went to the Science Center, the park, and we made s’mores on the front porch after dinner one night.

As the Mangos were leaving, my parents, Michael and Rachel were arriving for Christmas. I ran 10 miles with the girls on Christmas Eve before we were off to church in the afternoon for our candlelight service. My favorite.

After putting milk, cookies, and carrots out for Santa and his reindeer, we woke up on Christmas morning to see what Santa brought and exchange gifts. We spent the rest of the day playing with our new toys, inside and outside.

We headed to Light Up UCF on Tuesday to ice skate! It was the first time ice skating for the kids and the first time in a very long time ice skating for the rest of us. Crosby didn’t like it, but Kenley loved it! We went back out a second time and it was hard to pull her away.

Family Photos {2016}

I was determined to make 2016 the year that we got family photos taken again. We hadn’t had them taken since Crosby was born three years ago! All of those photos still filled all of the frames in our house and while I treasure those pictures, I wanted updated ones so that I didn’t have to continue looking at myself just one week postpartum. Not to mention, the kids have changed SO much in three years. So, on my birthday this year, we headed to Baldwin Park for a mini-session with Ashley of Dearly Photography. I am over the moon with how many great shots she got of us in just 20 minutes.

Christmas at Seaworld // 2016

Another item on our advent list this year was to see the Christmas lights and decorations at SeaWorld. We went last year for the first time and absolutely loved it. Instead of the Polar Express this year, the main attraction was Rudolph and friends. I was a little bummed that the Polar Express wasn’t back because it was really so cool last year, but Rudolph was a nice change of pace and something new for us to see.

Untitled

Unfortunately, it was pushing 90 degrees when we arrived. Nothing says happy holidays like sweating like crazy walking around to look at the decorations. Luckily, when the sun went down it was a little better, but it was still really humid.

Untitled

Untitled

Untitled

We only rode a couple of rides since the lines were a little long. The kids could have looked at the train display all day. We watched them go around and around during the day and then again at night when they were all lit up. It’s such a cool display.

Untitled

Untitled

Untitled

We were ready for the Sea of Trees show which had a cute little introduction and skit before the light show started. Crosby joined the other kids to sing a Christmas carol and was asked to participate in the show!

The show did not disappoint and Crosby did such a good job ringing the bell. He was all about it! After the show, we headed over to see the Rudolph in the Christmas village.

The line for Rudolph and Clarice was a bit long, so we met Bumble instead before we walked around to see the lights.

Friday I’m in Love

Happy Friday!

o n e

On Tuesday, the 5am running crew got together for a little holiday get-together. It was great to actually see each other in real clothes and make-up. It was also the same day that the Chicago Marathon announced who was accepted through the lottery, so we celebrated! Majority of these ladies are running the marathon in October and I am so excited to be on that crazy journey with them. Related to this, I came across this great article this week: 8 Reasons Why Mommy Needs to Run and I love it.

Greg and I went to the Magic game against the Clippers on Wednesday. We knew more players on the Clippers than the Magic this year and I’m still bummed that Oladipo is gone, but we had a good time and loved spending some time together! We headed out early to run a few Christmas errands…’tis the season!

These crazy kids had pajama day at school yesterday. It is hands down the best day of the year in their eyes (and I don’t blame them). They also got to watch a movie, eat popcorn, and drink warm cocoa. The week before holiday break is the best! Pajamas are from Old Navy, here and here.

Friday I’m in Love

Happy Friday! I’ve been slacking on my Friday loves, so I have a lot to catch up on. Let’s get to it.

o n e

When we saw Trolls in the theater, we got to see the preview for the new Lego Batman movie. We’ve since watched the trailer several times and are all so excited to see it in February. There are 20 minifigures that go with the movie, which are all so cute. I am pretty sure vacation Batman is my favorite. Speaking of Batman, the kids love to sing the Batman version of Jingle Bells, so I was excited to find this free Batman smells printable from recipe for crazy to go with our Christmas decor.

I picked up a couple pairs of the new Old Navy Pixie Chino pants and I love them! I think I have previously shared my love for the Old Navy Pixie pants, but I like the chinos even more. They are not as tight or stretchy as the regular pixie and they are great for work. I have Gray Stone and Cool Sage Green.

Michelle and I frequently discuss how we are still so emotionally involved with Grey’s Anatomy. I know a lot of people don’t watch it anymore, but I just can’t seem to quit it. She sent me this article and it made me want to go back at watch every single one of these heart wrenching episodes. Why do I love this show so much?!

I have been doing majority of my Christmas shopping online and I am loving Ebates! I know I’ve mentioned this one before too, but if you haven’t signed up for Ebates, you are missing out. You get cash back for shopping online. It’s seriously that simple. I use the handy Google Chrome extension so it reminds me to activate my Ebates when I’m shopping.

f i v e

Of course, I am loving all things Christmas right now! We’ve had so much fun with our advent calendar activities, including building a gingerbread house and making reindeer chow this week. The kids also have the Lego City and Lego Friends advent calendars, so they have loved building Legos each morning. We are looking forward to more Christmas fun the next few weeks!

Space Coast Half Marathon {Race Recap}

For the second Thanksgiving weekend in a row, I ran the Space Coast Half Marathon in Cocoa. As I mentioned after the race last year, registration for the race opens in February and this year the race was full in less than 5 minutes. I was so thankful to get into the race for the second year in a row. Leading up to the race, I was really looking forward to it. It has been one of my favorite races, especially after I unexpectedly broke 2:15 last year. Since I set a new unintentional PR in October at Lighthouse Loop, I really wanted to go out and run a sub-2:10 race.

We loaded up the family on Saturday to head over to the expo and check in to the hotel. I thought it would be a fun night away for us all and Greg and the kids could meet me after the race on Sunday. We picked up our packets and stopped into the Florida Brewing Company for a pre-race beer before we carb loaded at an Italian restaurant.

Untitled

Untitled

We had a nice little set up in our hotel room and I slept on the pull out couch so I wouldn’t wake everyone when my alarm went off at 4:30am. The temps were supposed to be in the 60’s and I debated wearing my new long sleeve shirt (just because I love it), but I am so thankful that I decided against it. I definitely did not need it.

Untitled

Heather and I left the boys and the kids at the hotel and drove over to the start of the race around 5am. We met up with the other MRTT mamas and chatted before it was time to head to the start line. Michelle offered to pace us on our way to a 2:10 finish time. She casually mentioned at the start line that we were going to bust it from the very beginning and not worry about conserving energy. She said that mile 10 sucks regardless, so there is no sense in saving energy. I’m glad I didn’t know that was the plan all along, but I rolled with it.

Untitled

The race started and we were off. I knew our first mile would be slower just because of the congestion on the race course at the beginning. I thought for sure it would be over 10 minutes, but when I saw 9:49 at the one mile marker, I was determined to keep every mile under 10 minutes. We stopped for a quick walk around mile three where Heather dropped back a little bit. Michelle and I continued and stopped for another quick walk around mile 5 to fuel. I took an applesauce pouch which is what I have been training with for the past few months. I made the mistake at Lighthouse Loop of taking a GU instead, so I made sure to switch back to applesauce for this race.

After our fuel break, we started to see some familiar faces of runners who were coming back on the other side of the course. This out and back course is one of my favorites as it makes for great people watching. It’s also great seeing the smiling faces of friends too for some extra encouragement. We kept on trucking and turned around just after the 7 mile marker. Around mile 8, we made a decision that we would turn on Michelle’s music at mile 10 so that was something to look forward to.

Mile 10. I hate mile 10. It’s such a tease because you’ve reached double digits and you know that you’ve come so far, but you still have 3 more miles to go! Miles 10 through 13 were not great for me. I did my fair share of moaning and groaning and poor Michelle had to listen to me do it. She was happy as a clam and was feeling great being the DJ for those three miles. I was not feeling great, but I also was determined to not stop even though I wanted to so badly. By this time, we had already talked about going for a finish time of 2:05. At some point between miles 11 and 13, I told Michelle to go ahead of me. She said no, so on we went.

The last mile felt like it took forever. I kept telling myself that I can run for just 10 more minutes, then just 5 more minutes, then just 1 more minute. Anything to keep my legs moving. We saw Michelle’s family as we turned to run around the park to the finish line. I knew we were almost done, I could see the finish line on the other side of the park and I could hear the announcer calling the names of the finishers.

 Untitled

Photo credit: Craig Bailey / Florida Today

We finally crossed the finish line with a time of 2:04.48, just under our 2:05 goal and absolutely crushing my 2:13.19 PR just a few weeks before. I could not believe it. I immediately stopped to catch my breath and compose myself before getting my medal and beach towel. A volunteer came over to make sure I was okay, so I think I was looking rough at that point.

Untitled

Finally, it was time to celebrate! I met up with Greg and the kids and we saw Heather cross the finish line. This race has a great after party, so I was definitely looking forward to relaxing and chatting with the other mamas. I laid out my beach towel and ate some breakfast and didn’t want to move.

Untitled

Untitled

I am so thankful that Michelle was running with me to push me during those last three miles until the very end. There were so many times that I could have stopped to walk but didn’t. This was the most mentally challenging race for me and I definitely could not have done it without her.

Untitled

I was also so happy to run into Katie again this year and catch up with her! I was looking for her during and after the race and finally saw her as we were getting our beers.

Untitled

I successfully ran the whole race with each mile under 10 minutes, even on the miles that we stopped for a quick walk. The adrenaline wasn’t pumping like it was towards the end of the race last year. It was a struggle, mentally and physically, and I immediately regretted carrying my water bottle the whole race. However, I am so happy that I pushed to the finish. Seeing 2:04 on the clock as I crossed the finish line was worth it… as well as the days of soreness that followed.

Now, I hope I can get into the race next year to earn my 3 year Milky Way medal!
