Friday I’m in Love

Happy Friday! I apologize for missing last Friday, but now that the semester has started, my Friday loves may not happen each week. I’ll do my best! The good news about skipping a week is that there is more to love, so let’s get started!

The Gap x Disney collection was released right after Christmas and it is absolutely adorable. There are so many cute things for babies, toddlers, and kids. It seems there are some items that are already out of stock, but I am eyeing a couple of things for the kids.

I have shared a couple good books recently and I am always adding to my must-read list. Here are 7 books to help you feel fabulous right now.

t h r e e

We have been trying a lot of new, healthy recipes over the past couple of weeks. Michelle and I have been testing them out and swapping the good recipes that we find on Pinterest. This week we had BBQ Chicken Zucchini Boats which were a huge hit! We are really loving zucchini boats. They are a great alternative to carbs and surprisingly really filling. I highly recommend if you’re looking for a new recipe next week.

I also am loving my Instant Pot. I have had it for almost a year now and I am finally feeling comfortable with it, even though I haven’t even scratched the surface of what it can do. I frequently use it for hard-boiled eggs, quinoa, brown rice, sweet potatoes, and chicken. It’s been clutch on our big meal prep days on the weekend. I am excited to expand my horizons and start using more of the settings. Ha!

Friday I’m in Love

Happy Friday and happy October! I apologize for missing last week’s post, thanks to Matthew, but I’m back with a full dose of what I’m loving. Let’s get started!

National Taco Day was last week on October 4th, which also happened to be a Tuesday, so National Taco Day ON Taco Tuesday? I’ll take it! Of course we had to read one our favorite books that day… Dragons Love Tacos! If you haven’t read it, add it to your kids’ wish lists (or your own wish list, no judgment). Seriously, the cutest book ever!

Speaking of books, I got a new one this week! Emily Ley’s book Grace, Not Perfection was released on Tuesday. I have only started it, but I already love it. Another great read from Emily is 6 Ways Parents Grow Up While Their Kids Do.

The kids had dress up days this week for spirit week! They were so excited to not have to wear their uniforms and wear fun clothes. They had pajama day, favorite team day, mismatch day, and red, white, and blue day.

We started the month of birthday celebrations on Monday with a little celebration at home with my parents, then Greg and I continued the celebration on his actual birthday with dinner at RusTeak. So fun and delicious! One down, three to go!

Friday I’m in Love

Happy Friday and welcome back to Friday I’m in Love. I am so excited to get this series started again now that summer has come and gone. I am also happy to be back on the blogging train. If you’re new here, each Friday I share what I’m loving that week. Most of the time, it’s the little things that mean the most. Let’s get started.

Friday I'm in Love Linky Party

o n e

I’ve been reading (for fun) lately since I am not taking any classes this semester. I am currently reading Make It Happen thanks to a recommendation from a friend. The book is really good and very eye opening. I have also started following the author on Instagram and you should too. You can find her @laracasey.

t w o

I am also reading some great newsletters that show up in my inbox. The first is The Drafting Desk and it was created by an acquaintance here in Orlando. Subscribe and follow @thedraftingdesk on Instagram. The second one that I am really enjoying is Simple Families.

t h r e e

This is probably not surprising, but I love school supplies, planners, stationary, all the pretty things. Emily Ley released her fall line this week and it is all so pretty. I ordered the icon sticker set and am anxiously waiting to put them all over my Simplified Planner. Also, Le Pen fine-line colored pens are currently on Groupon! I am so excited to try them, I have heard such great things about them and am so happy to have found them so cheap!

f o u r

It’s September and fall is in the air! Football is back and all of my fall decor is already out. I’ve already had my first Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks and it was far less humid this week, which is probably just a big tease. I know most of you are probably hanging on to summer as long as possible, but fall is a mindset here in Florida and I am ready for it! It just makes me so happy.

Recently, the Bentgo Kids lunchbox was on a lightning deal on Amazon. We snagged a couple and already love them! They are excellent for packing lunches and are a great size. I don’t fill the compartments all the way to the top yet, so there is still room to grow with them. I’ve already started making a list of healthy items to pack in the kids’ lunches for a quick reference once school starts back up again in the fall.

Greg is an avid ice coffee drinker, so he got a Contigo Shake & Go tumbler for Father’s Day last weekend. Since he was out of town this week, I confiscated it. It’s pretty sweet. You can shake up your coffee then pop the straw in. I would imagine this is also good for smoothies and shakes too!

t h r e e

I finally ordered Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead by Sheryl Sandberg for my Kindle (which ended up being free thanks to my Amazon credits!) and I am excited to start reading it (you know, in all my free time). While I was learning more about the book, I came across Sheryl’s TED talk: Why we have too few women leaders from 2010… yes, I realize I’m a little behind the times. If you’re so inclined, listen to it. It has me very excited to read the book!

I can’t even tell you the last time I’ve read a book…for fun…and I just finished Run Like a Mother: How to Get Moving–and Not Lose Your Family, Job, or Sanity. I highly recommend this book if you’re at all interested in running. It’s very informative and easy to read. I also learned this week they have another book out too – Train Like a Mother – which is on my list to read next.

I stumbled upon this article this week and it is very thought provoking.

How To Ruin Your Life (Without Even Noticing You Are)

Have a read for yourself.

This article, on the other hand, is not as thought provoking. It’s just true. Give me all the coffee and ALL the wine.

Why Do Moms Always Talk About Coffee and Wine?

This one is two-fold. Greg and I have been catching up on the Hunger Games movies. We watched Hunger Games last week and this week we watched Catching Fire. We are planning to watch Mockingjay (Part I) tonight! The movies have been really good (even Greg likes them) and it’s been so nice to just sit on the couch with each other and watch a movie. I can’t tell you how long it’s been since we’ve done that. No phones, no technology, no kids, just us. It’s been just what I’ve needed.

There were several Superbowl commercials that I loved, but this one was by far my favorite:

Greg’s favorite was this one:

I don’t know how we just found about the show Fixer Upper, but we did and we’re loving it. Greg thinks Chip is hilarious and I just love anything and everything HGTV related. If you haven’t seen it then definitely give it a shot!

t h r e e

Did you see that Harper Lee is going to be publishing her second book in July?! I definitely will be reading To Kill A Mockingbird again before July because it has been quite a while since high school.

f o u r

I tried my first Starbucks Flat White (with added vanilla) yesterday and it was delicious! The Flat White is steamed milk over ristretto shots of espresso. Yum.

As soon as I saw this book was coming out, I knew we had to have it.
No, really. I pre-ordered it.
It is awesome.
Greg and I crack up every time we read it, so naturally Kenley thinks it’s hilarious too.
It’s the little things, ya know?

Two words: March Madness
It’s the most wonderful time of the year. I’m talking, right up there with Christmas.
What’s better than continuous basketball for four straight days and rooting for Cinderella teams?
Never mind the fact that my bracket was busted the first game of the day yesterday.
You win some and you lose some, I guess.
I’ll be cheering for most of the underdogs from here on out, as well as the remaining teams in the Big Ten.

t h r e e

Let me tell you how much of a hot mess I am.
I got up from lunch on campus this week and LEFT MY PURSE hanging on the back of the chair.
And by purse, I mean my entire life in one bag.
Miraculously, I got a call from another office saying a student turned it in there.
Thank you Jesus. What an amazing person.
Unfortunately, they didn’t leave their name, so there was no way for me to repay them,
but I fully intend on paying it forward.
That student restored my faith in humanity this week. Whoever you are, thank you.
