Best Damn Race 10k {race recap}

In March, I ran one of my favorite races, the Best Damn Race 10k. This was my fourth BDR race and the third time running the 10k after switching to the half marathon last year. The race this year was just as good as it was in previous years. The weather was crisp and cool, but I decided to run in my tank top and save my long sleeve for after the race.

Untitled

Untitled

As we got started, it was really crowded so the group broke up a bit. I ran with Amanda for a little bit in the first mile, then found Cristina in the second mile. I ran the first two miles straight through until we caught up with Heather and Tracy. For the last four miles, we switched to intervals. The intervals were so nice. I was pushing myself on the runs and enjoying the recovery on the walks. We ran, walked, and chatted the rest of the way.

Untitled

We finished in 1:02.09 which is not a personal record, but I felt really good about my finish time. This was my first race since the marathon and coming back from my injury. I finished with a runners high, which I hadn’t felt in a while. I remember how much I like racing (and running, to be honest). I am excited to continue running, recovering, and getting faster this summer.

Untitled

As usual, the after party did not disappoint. We all enjoyed bloody mary’s and each other’s company until we had to leave for the Smile Mile.

Lady Track Shack 5k {race recap}

My double race weekend started with one of my favorite races, the Lady Track Shack 5k. This year was even more special because Kenley came with me to run the race. I told her a couple months ago that we were going to run an all girl race so naturally she has been talking about it ever since. She even would tell Greg and Crosby that they couldn’t go because it was only for girls.

The night before the race, she got up at least twice asking if it was time to get up yet. She was so excited! We left before the sun came up and headed down to Loch Haven Park to meet up with some friends before the start of the race. Kenley was excited to see Livie, Michelle’s daughter, was there.

Untitled

This was my first time ever running a race with a stroller and it will likely be my last. We had to start at the very back of the race, the very back. The whole first half of the race was spent bobbing in and out of the walkers trying to actually run the race, all while trying my hardest not to run into anyone with the stroller. Kenley asked the whole first mile if she could get out and run with the girls. Just after the first mile, when it opened up just a bit, she hopped out and was on her way.

Untitled

She was good about getting back in the stroller when she needed a break. I had to tell her a few times to slow down and to make sure she stayed next to Livie so she could pace herself.

Untitled

As we passed Track Shack, the DJ said into the microphone that she must be the youngest runner on the course. She hopped in and out a few more times and cheered Livie on from the stroller while she was resting. The last quarter of a mile, I pushed her to run the rest of the race. We kept telling the girls that the donuts were waiting for us at the finish line, which they were, Krispy Kreme!

lts5k3

lts5k4

We finished in 39:23 based on our chip. You can see that we crossed the start line a good three minutes after the clock started since we were in the very back.

lts5k2

We had such a good time and saw so many other mamas after the race. Kenley had a blast playing with Livie, who ended up placing third in her age group! Kenley is already talking about running the whole race next year.

Friday I’m in Love

Happy Friday! It’s hard to believe this is the last Friday in June. How is that possible? Anyway, let’s get to it…

o n e

On Sunday night, over 50,000 people stood together around Lake Eola to remember and honor the victims of the tragedy. We weren’t able to go, but we watched the recap on the news following the NBA Finals Game 7 (which was insane, by the way!). The vigil was the best way to close a horrific week in our city. Monday was a new day and a new week and we welcomed it with open arms. On Wednesday, Keep Dancing Orlando was born and it brought a smile and a few tears to my face. Watch, smile, and keep dancing Orlando.

Can I share with you what has been our saving grace lately? This

The favorite thing to do in our house right now is jump on the couch, which results in us telling asking the kids to stop jumping on the couch no less than ten times a day. Now, we just tell them to jump on the trampoline instead and has made everyone so happy!

Friday I'm in Love Linky Party

Don’t forget to head over to see what the other ladies are loving this month. We will also be taking a short hiatus from the link-up for the summer. We will be back in full force after Labor Day!

Have a great weekend!

Friday I’m in Love {with Orlando}

It’s finally Friday after what feels like the longest week ever. It was hard for me to even sit down and write this blog post because there really isn’t much to love this week. Instead, I’ve compiled a list of newsworthy articles, stories, and examples of what an amazing community we have here in Orlando. I am certain you’ve seen these stories this week, but if you haven’t, take a look.

UCF held a beautiful candlelight vigil on Tuesday night to remember the victims, specifically the two that were part of the UCF community. Millican Hall as lit up in rainbow colors following the vigil. I am so proud to be a part of such an amazing university. The outpouring of love and support of for our students, staff, and city has been incredible. The other college and universities have also done the same — Orlando’s Colleges Offer Solace in the Wake of Tragedy

Millican Hall shows it Pride

Earlier in the week, I shared at Orlando Moms Blog how we can help by purchasing beautiful art prints by local artists.

The running community is a strong one, both here in Central Florida and across the nation.

Orlando Track Shack has already sold out of their first batch of the #OrlandoStrong shirts and have already ordered more.

Next Saturday, June 25th there will be an #OrlandoUnited 5K fundraiser in Lake Mary. We will be running the virtual race as a family.

OrlandoUnited_5K small

Moms RUN This Town/She Runs This Town has a fundraiser in the works to raise money for the One Orlando Fund. I LOVE the photo she posted on Instagram too.

4Rivers will open its doors for the first time on Sunday and all proceeds will go to the OneOrlando Fund.

Greg will get to work the K92.3’s Country Strong benefit concert on Tuesday, which has a pretty strong line up.

All of our professional sports teams have come together to sell #OrlandoUnited shirts. They are in high demand!

Finally, the best article I have read all week is this one — Maxwell: With the world’s eyes on Orlando, let me tell you who we really are

On behalf of our city, thank you for the love and support this week.

Untitled

saturday morning, we took a family trip to the y. i finally realize that i an actually use my running watch while i am running on the treadmill. only two years later…

Untitled

some of crosby’s friends came over for a swim on saturday morning. they all had a great time, despite the looks on their faces.

Untitled

saturday afternoon included a trip to ikea! if there ever is a place that is both terrible and awesome at the same time, it’s ikea.

Untitled

we were successful and crosby got a new mattress for his new bed that we put together this morning.

Untitled

saturday night, i celebrated kayla’s birthday with dinner and drinks! it was nice to get out for some girl time.

Untitled

today was a bit of a blur. crosby woke up early and greg told me about a shooting at pulse. as the day went on and more details came out, it was hard for me to process it all. i felt helpless. heather and i got in a little bit of girl time and retail therapy, then we tried to donate blood. the line was super long, so we opted for buying cases of bottled water to donate to the big red bus. we’ve been glued to cnn all night still trying to come to terms with the fact that this terrorist attack happened right here in our own city. please continue to pray for orlando.
