Friday I’m in Love…on Saturday

Happy Friday and happy April! Apparently I haven’t shared my loves in about a month (and I can’t even get them posted on the right day), so we have a lot to catch up on, let’s get started.

o n e

In the world of sports, college basketball and March Madness has come to an end. I am sad to see basketball go, but I am excited about the new regime at IU. UCF ended their season in the final four of the NIT tournament, so that was exciting! Unfortunately, we didn’t make it to any games this year, that’ll be a goal for next year. Greg is thoroughly excited that baseball is back. He also opted to sit out of fantasy baseball this year, so watching games has been more laid back than it has been in years. Let’s go Mets!

This just in, parenting is hard. Here are a couple of good articles I’m loving lately: 9 Reasons Why I’m The Mean Mom, Not The Cool Mom and Dear Working Mom. Also related, I’ve been listening to the Simple Families podcast and Denaye has some really great episodes.

t h r e e

I don’t know why it took me so long to try coconut milk, but I’m obsessed. I’ve completely replaced my coffee creamer with it and I had it on my cereal this week. It’s delicious! My new drink at Starbucks is iced coffee with vanilla and coconut milk. I swear I’ve been talking about it all week. As far as dinners go, we’ve been having a lot of our usual favorites, but we are definitely adding these grilled shrimp tacos with avocado salsa in to the rotation. Yum!

We were late to the game with watching Moana, but Greg randomly brought it home a few weekends ago so we finally watched it. It is SO good! I think Greg and I may have liked it even more than the kids. We’ve also been listening to the soundtrack nonstop on Spotify, which is just as amazing as the movie. If you haven’t seen or listened to it, I highly recommend it. We also saw the new live action Beauty and the Beast the day before we left on the cruise. It was also really good!

What have you been loving lately?!

Friday I’m in Love

Happy Friday and happy October! I apologize for missing last week’s post, thanks to Matthew, but I’m back with a full dose of what I’m loving. Let’s get started!

o n e

National Taco Day was last week on October 4th, which also happened to be a Tuesday, so National Taco Day ON Taco Tuesday? I’ll take it! Of course we had to read one our favorite books that day… Dragons Love Tacos! If you haven’t read it, add it to your kids’ wish lists (or your own wish list, no judgment). Seriously, the cutest book ever!

t w o

Speaking of books, I got a new one this week! Emily Ley’s book Grace, Not Perfection was released on Tuesday. I have only started it, but I already love it. Another great read from Emily is 6 Ways Parents Grow Up While Their Kids Do.

The kids had dress up days this week for spirit week! They were so excited to not have to wear their uniforms and wear fun clothes. They had pajama day, favorite team day, mismatch day, and red, white, and blue day.

We started the month of birthday celebrations on Monday with a little celebration at home with my parents, then Greg and I continued the celebration on his actual birthday with dinner at RusTeak. So fun and delicious! One down, three to go!

It’s that time of year again when all of the good TV shows are returning and the new ones are starting. We watched the first episode of This Is Us and I am in. love. It’s already been called “the new Parenthood” and it is and I still love it. If you haven’t watched it yet, definitely check out the pilot episode.

With the kids’ birthdays quickly approaching, I am feeling all the emotions about having a three year old and a five year old. I stumbled across this article this week and it really hit home. While I sometimes miss having a tiny baby, I am happy to leave behind the baby and toddler days.

t h r e e

It’s officially fall, ya’ll! I’m not afraid to admit that I’ve had my fall decor up since Labor Day, but now I can officially embrace the fall season…even if the high is 90 degrees today. We are gearing up for a fun October and looking forward to a fun fall season! I think I need to get a Pumpkin Spice Latte this weekend.

Amazing.

The article Move Over, Barbie: New Run Doll Line Expanding popped up on Facebook this week from another running mama, which led me to Go! Go! Sports Girls. How did I not know about these dolls? AMAZING.

I love that Rachel Hollis’ bikini photo is going viral, stretch marks and all. Naturally, I started following her on Instagram this week.

I think I’ve mentioned before how much we love the Re-Play plates, bowls, cups, etc. for the kids. How cute is this spring sorbet set?

Easter is right around the corner! I’ve seen this Bunny Hop Sweatshirt floating around various blog posts this week, but I had to share. Does it get any cuter than this?

Happy Friday!

If you’re new to these parts, every Friday we {myself, MishaMary BethAmanda, and Laura} share what we’re loving each week. We’d love for you to join! Share anything, from the big things to the little things, whatever makes you happy! Let’s get to it!

Some probably think I am a selfish mom because I sometimes rearrange our family calendar so I can go for a run; I make a point to go out with the girls; I am working to advance my career; and the list goes on and on; but, all of these things keep me sane and actually makes me a better mom (and wife). So selfish moms, read on: To All the Selfish Moms

We hit up the Old Navy spring break sale last weekend to stock up on some things for the kids and I snagged a the Pixie chino for me. I had heard good things about the Pixie so I definitely wanted to try them. They are a little bit more form fitting than some of my other pants, but they are SO comfy!! I got the classic khaki, but I definitely want to get a couple other colors.

t h r e e

Let’s talk food. I have tried a couple new recipes lately that I must share. The first is Crock Pot Turkey Chili. It was really good and as an added bonus, it’s from Skinny Taste so it’s also good for you! The second one is Cheesy Chicken Broccoli and Rice Casserole. Greg has declared this to be in his top five favorite meals I make and it’s all about the rotisserie chicken. You have to try it! Lastly, I have been making overnight oats for breakfast this week and I’m definitely onto something. Hopefully I’ll have some good concoctions to share with you soon.

While I was falling into the Instagram rabbit hole, I came across Stately Type and I am in love. I have a weird love of maps, geography, and the United States, so these tees are right up my alley.

You didn’t think I was going to go through this whole blog post without mentioning March Madness did you? Well it’s finally here, the best four days of college basketball. Back to back games, bracket busters, everything. I love it. Kenley filled out her first bracket this year. I gave her the two mascots of each game and she picked one of them until her whole bracket was filled. Now it’s time for the Hoosiers to bring it!

10 Processed Foods to Never Feed Your Kids

This article popped up in a mommy group this week and it was pretty eye opening. I will admit we regularly have goldfish crackers in our house, but now I am going to make a point to buy the Annie’s brand crackers now. I am happy to see that Chipotle is listed as a good alternative since that is pretty much the only fast food establishment we frequent with the kids.

On Wednesday, a group of eight ladies got together for Craft Night 2.0 at Sally’s house. This was our second craft night this year (hence the 2.0). I brought over my Cricut machine and we all monogrammed our own tumbler. It was a fun craft, but it was more fun chatting with these ladies. We are all somehow intertwined through our various circles – friends, coworkers, church, mommy groups, etc. so it was great meeting new faces and catching up with old friends. Not to mention, Sally made some killer brownies. It’s nice to be able to get out for some good, adult conversation on a random Wednesday night.

My mom got these boots for Kenley for Christmas and I get compliments on them ALL the time! We love them. Kenley chooses to wear them almost everyday and they are still in great condition. I have not had the same luck with Old Navy boots, so I will be shopping the Target selection from now on.

I can’t even tell you the last time I’ve read a book…for fun…and I just finished Run Like a Mother: How to Get Moving–and Not Lose Your Family, Job, or Sanity. I highly recommend this book if you’re at all interested in running. It’s very informative and easy to read. I also learned this week they have another book out too – Train Like a Mother – which is on my list to read next.

I stumbled upon this article this week and it is very thought provoking.

How To Ruin Your Life (Without Even Noticing You Are)

Have a read for yourself.

This article, on the other hand, is not as thought provoking. It’s just true. Give me all the coffee and ALL the wine.

This one is two-fold. Greg and I have been catching up on the Hunger Games movies. We watched Hunger Games last week and this week we watched Catching Fire. We are planning to watch Mockingjay (Part I) tonight! The movies have been really good (even Greg likes them) and it’s been so nice to just sit on the couch with each other and watch a movie. I can’t tell you how long it’s been since we’ve done that. No phones, no technology, no kids, just us. It’s been just what I’ve needed.

Here is a helpful tip for bloggers. I’ve experienced several of these emails, mostly in the past month… so this is definitely worth a read!

There really isn’t anything better than knowing we’re going into a three day weekend, especially after a busy week at work. Happy long weekend friends!

Happy New Year! I can’t believe it’s been almost a year since Misha and I started the Friday I’m in Love series. I hope you’re still enjoying reading it as much as we’re enjoying writing it. I’m so glad that Amanda, Mary Beth, and Laura have joined in on the fun. You should join too! Each Friday we share what we’re loving each week…the big stuff, the small stuff, it really can be anything!

Remember this picture that I posted on New Year’s Eve before our dinner party?

IMG_9608

Well I used the hashtag #CheekyNewYearContest to enter the Cheeky Home contest and… I WON!! Greg and I will be enjoying $250 to the restaurant of our choice (Cooper’s Hawk Winery) for a few date nights this year. Not a bad way to ring in the new year, right?

Lilly Pulitzer for Target was announced this week and it launches on April 19th! I’m excited to see what fun colors and prints will be available.

t h r e e

I saw this article, To Build (or Break) a Child’s Spirit shared on Facebook last week and I really liked it. On one hand, it’s always nice to have a good reminder about communication with these little people we’re raising; and on the other hand, I’m constantly wondering how my parents ever raised us kids without all of these parenting articles constantly thrown in their faces on social media each day. Do this, don’t do that…. I think they did a good job regardless.

f o u r

We found out this week that SeaWorld Orlando annual passes are buy one, get one free AND the Preschool Pass is FREE for kiddos five and under. That’s a good deal, ya’ll! Check it out.

I have finished the first season of Serial. I know I’ve mentioned this before, but if you haven’t started listening, what are you waiting for?! It is so so interesting. You can either download the podcast or go to the website to listen. While I am happy that I finished the first season, I’m also just a little bit sad that it’s over.

I have given up soda (pop) for Lent! I intend to give it up for a longer period of time, but I figured Lent would be a good start. I love me some diet soda, but I am excited to be done with it. I’m open to hear your suggestions on yummy, healthy alternatives to soda!

It’s March (let’s not talk about the fact that this year is already flying by…mmmkthanks),
so that means it’s time for spring cleaning!
I hear everyone being all excited about spring cleaning, but I’m just not there yet.

March also means spring training has begun for baseball!
This is definitely something Greg is loving.
Our conversations now include talk of fantasy baseball, players, and draft strategy,
and surprisingly, I’m ok with that. We are also looking forward to seeing at least one spring training game this season!
