SeaWorld Field Trip

Last month, we all headed to SeaWorld for the kids’ field trip day! We were so happy that their classes went on the field trip on the same day which allowed us to make a day of it. Greg and I went as chaperones and drove down ourselves so we could stay a little later in the day.

With their classmates, they got to do two rides: Antarctica: Empire of the Penguins and Wild Arctic and see two shows: Clyde and Seamore’s Sea Lion High and One Ocean. The kids also touched the sting rays and watched the dolphins. We had never seen the sea lion show so that was something new and fun to experience. After their classes left, they rode the Shamu roller coaster twice before we headed home.

It was a hot and exhausting day, but it was educational and we all had so much fun! We chose not to renew our annual passes this year, so it was a perfect way to end our time with SeaWorld, for a little while at least.

Christmas at Seaworld // 2016

Another item on our advent list this year was to see the Christmas lights and decorations at SeaWorld. We went last year for the first time and absolutely loved it. Instead of the Polar Express this year, the main attraction was Rudolph and friends. I was a little bummed that the Polar Express wasn’t back because it was really so cool last year, but Rudolph was a nice change of pace and something new for us to see.

Untitled

Unfortunately, it was pushing 90 degrees when we arrived. Nothing says happy holidays like sweating like crazy walking around to look at the decorations. Luckily, when the sun went down it was a little better, but it was still really humid.

Untitled

Untitled

Untitled

Untitled

We only rode a couple of rides since the lines were a little long. The kids could have looked at the train display all day. We watched them go around and around during the day and then again at night when they were all lit up. It’s such a cool display.

Untitled

Untitled

Untitled

We were ready for the Sea of Trees show which had a cute little introduction and skit before the light show started. Crosby joined the other kids to sing a Christmas carol and was asked to participate in the show!

The show did not disappoint and Crosby did such a good job ringing the bell. He was all about it! After the show, we headed over to see the Rudolph in the Christmas village.

The line for Rudolph and Clarice was a bit long, so we met Bumble instead before we walked around to see the lights.

The park was beautifully decorated and the lights were amazing. We had such a great time once again this year.

we had an eventful weekend! how was yours?

my weekend in photos

our long weekend technically started on wednesday evening and the rest of the week/weekend didn’t exactly go as we had planned. my parents arrived wednesday night and thursday morning was spent preparing for hurricane matthew.

Untitled

hunkering down, playing legos before bedtime.

Untitled

we watched hours upon hours of hurricane coverage on thursday and friday while we were home under a mandated curfew. the city and east side of the state prepared for the worst and prayed for the best. thankfully matthew took a little jog out east and didn’t directly hit florida.

Untitled

we had very high winds and rain, so we resorted to having the kids ride their scooters in the house. thankfully, we didn’t lose power at all!

Untitled

the curfew ended earlier than expected which meant that we were able to get out and go for a run on saturday morning! those 12 miles were much needed and it was so good to get out with this crew and assess the storm damage.

Untitled

the weather the rest of the weekend was amazing, so we took advantage of a free day on saturday and headed to sea world!

Untitled

i think he was happy to get out of the house too!

Untitled

i love these little guys.

Untitled

brr!

Untitled

we weren’t able to go on our disney cruise, but we made the most of our day and had a great time. apparently, the day after a hurricane is a good day to visit the parks because there were no lines whatsoever!

Untitled

we were also so happy to have meemaw and grandpa with us too!

Untitled

our thursday night garth brooks concert was also rescheduled so that’s what we did on sunday afternoon. we rocked out to garth like it was a saturday night.

Untitled

the show was unbelievable. absolutely amazing.

Untitled

the temps were in the 60’s this morning, so heather and i got out for a quick three mile run before work. bring on the fall weather!

***

it’s been a whirlwind for sure! we had such a great weekend which i do not take for granted considering that it could have definitely turned out differently depending on the path of the hurricane. even though we didn’t get to cruise the caribbean this weekend, we are incredibly thankful!

how was your weekend?!

we headed to the townhouse restaurant on friday after work. the kids were so excited to see charlie and margot who were visiting from canada!

Untitled

so thankful for a quick dinner with these girls. it’s been way too long.

Untitled

i was back on campus on saturday morning to work while greg and the kids hit up the y and the park.

Untitled

after crosby’s much needed haircut, we headed to sea world!

Untitled

shamu!

Untitled

we thought for sure that we would be the only fools who wanted to go to sea world on saturday evening when it was 95 degrees outside. wrong. it was packed. there are apparently a lot of other crazies out there aside from us.

Untitled

greg and i collapsed on the couch once we got home and watched london has fallen. it was pretty good!

Untitled

sunday included church and errands. kenley and i did a little back to school shopping at target this afternoon too.

Untitled

it’s not a weekend without a quick swim and popsicles.

we had a great weekend! our summer weekends are quickly winding down, so we’re making the most of them.

we woke up saturday morning to chilly temps. perfect for early morning soccer!

Untitled

we headed down to sea world to soak up some more of the amazing weather.

the boys being all cute.

Untitled

it felt like we had the place to ourselves, so the kids got to ride all of their favorite rides.

Untitled

after a long day, greg and i headed back downtown for another date night celebrating the arts. we had an amazing dinner and drinks and saw a great show with friends. we had two late nights in a row, which is extremely rare for us, but it was totally worth it.

Untitled

after lots of chores around the house, we had to get outside to play today!

Untitled

these two lost their listening ears several times today, but overall, we had a great weekend!

i hope your weather was as nice as ours.

my [long] weekend in photos

crosby is reluctant to do the slide by himself, but he was happy to go with kenley!

Untitled

greg and i finally watched jurassic world on friday night. it was so good!

Untitled

saturday morning came early and we knocked out 12 miles, which is my longest training run to date. if i’m running anything close to 13.1 miles, i want to be getting a medal for it, however, heather suggested 12 and i agreed. it was hard and i moaned and groaned the rest of the day.

Untitled

we headed down disney to help celebrate lyla’s birthday and hang out with some friends. these three were brave enough to get in the water and i was happy to take pictures.

Untitled

we had so much fun playing, swimming, eating, and chatting. can you tell it was way past nap time for our kids? they fell asleep as soon as we got in the car.

Untitled

we did a whole lot of nothing on sunday and ended the day at tijuana flats. needless to say, this boy loves that place.

Untitled

greg and i both had today off so we started the day at sea world!

Untitled

we rode two roller coasters and enjoyed a snack before heading to lunch and to the mall. we had such a fun day together!

***

we really enjoyed having an extra day this weekend. how was your weekend?

greg took the kids to the park on friday after school and apparently kenley has mad monkey bars skills. neither greg, nor i had seen this before and she claims they have no monkey bars at school, so i am not sure where it came from. but, it’s awesome!

Untitled

saturday morning, i rocked ten miles these these lovely ladies and this gentleman. it was nice and cool and a great start to the day.

Untitled

later in the day after our errands were over, we headed down to sea world for a couple of hours. we got to visit the penguins right before the park closed, which was super fun.

Untitled

we stocked up on a lot of food this weekend and did a lot of meal prepping for the week including breakfast, lunch, and dinner. i don’t think our fridge has looked this full in months. it feels great to get so much done in advance!

Untitled

later in the day, we had some friends over for dinner. the kids had such a great time running around and playing.

Untitled

these two had a great weekend.

Christmas at SeaWorld

We headed down to SeaWorld on Saturday to take part in the Christmas festivities. Our first stop was the dolphin nursery!

Untitled

The one thing we really wanted to do was the Polar Express experience. We headed there first to see how long the wait was. The park was much busier than it had been all year long, so I was worried about the wait time, but we only waited about 15 minutes to get in. We have done this ride before, but never as the Polar Express and it was awesome! I was very impressed.

Untitled

Untitled

Untitled

Once we got to the North Pole, we saw Santa and his huge bag of toys from a distance, then moved on to see the animals.

Untitled

The walrus and the seals both swam right up to the glass where we were and were so close. It was a little frightening for the kids and the seal really snuck up on Kenley. I knew she didn’t see it so when she turned around it was right at eye level with her and really scared her. I saw the whole thing playing out and I will say it was pretty funny. They were also feeding the whales while we were underneath, which was pretty cool.

Untitled

Untitled

Later in the evening, we caught the end of the live music on our way to see the sharks.

Untitled

Untitled

The dancing trees light show was short, but it was really cool. I didn’t mind it being short since Crosby had a little trouble sitting on the grass watching for that long. Afterwards we watched the model trains go round and round. I think the kids could have stayed there for hours. The trains were really cool and the whole set up was really big.

Untitled

Untitled

We stopped for a quick bite to eat before heading back to the car. We were only there for a few hours, but it was so fun! I was really impressed with their displays and shows, and the kids loved the Polar Express and the trains. There were several other Christmas shows that we didn’t see, but that is okay. It was a great time!

Hopefully, we’ll be back to see it again next year!
